Hi, my beautiful daughter is 13 months old and doesn’t seem to respond to voices. She still hasn’t made any sounds other than humming, she doesn’t respond no matter how much you call on her. After being concerned about this for a while I spoke to the health visitor today who agreed she doesn’t seem to be listening to what we’re saying to her and has referred her to the audiologist. Where I’m confused is my baby passed her newborn hearing test with flying colours, if she was deaf I would assume she would’ve failed it unless it’s gotten progressively worse? I’m not sure the point of this post but feeling anxious about it and I don’t really have anyone other than the doctor to speak too about it.

Does she respond to other noise? My eldest dd was like this . We had hearing tests at 16 months and it had to be repeated . She didn't respond to half of the noises . But they finally said she had selective hearing. As in she was choosing not to respond.

Turned out my dd is autistic but we didn't realise for another couple of years .
Not saying that's the same for your dd .

She responds to loud bangs and thuds and things at a high pitch like the smoke alarm etc. She’s also constantly sticking her fingers in her ears, I’m just confused by it honestly. She’s meeting every other milestone with no issues, it’s just the talking and making sounds.

My dd didn't really start talking till she was closer to 5 . She did get better at responding to her name. But it depended on who said it.
She is very smart and just did everything at her own pace.
Even after being told her hearing was fine I still thought maybe it was that .
But it really was selective hearing. Well that's what they called it a few years ago . I'm sure it's not called that now.
It's good she has been referred. Hopefully they won't take to long for an appointment.

The constantly sticking fingers in ears thing may suggest glue ear.

I was thinking glue ear too. A friend of mine's child was massively speech delayed and very unresponsive. Everyone, including the professionals; put it down to two languages being spoken at home. Turned out it was awful glue ear in both ears which noone had spotted. Once that was sorted child's speech and responsiveness came on in leaps and bounds.

What ever is causing the problem the earlier it is sorted, the better. Well done you for noticing and getting her referred quickly x
