how to catch my sons wee in time?

My DS (4 weeks old) always manages to wee in between nappy changes, which I do not seem to catch in time....and it reaches carpet, bed, clothes, etc.

Also his poo seems to be yellow (which I know is ok) but full of air and when it comes out (also often in between the nappy change) it sounds so acidy and comes out with lots of bubbles.
Does any one know a trick on how to catch the wee in time and if that bubbly/airy poo is normal?

I remember this well. Ended up with as many changes of clothes (me) as new nappies at first. Amazing how far it goes isn't it! DH got pebbledashed once too, so did the bedroom wall and floor and bed and chair..... We ha projectile vomiting at one end and scud missiles at the other. Don't think its anything abnomal and believe me as you run out of clothes your reaction time will improve. Thing is you KNOW he will do it now so get that fresh nappy ready and move in quick. I think its probably the cold air or something, or maybe they just have a wicked sense of humour!

Midwives say put a piece of cotton wool on his willy.
I found a soft cloth worked well, then put the nappy underneath him and whip off the cloth quick before you fasten it.
Now he is 7 months and it doesn't happen as often, but I balance a wipe on the end of his willy just in case.
Fascinating stuff, what?

Also, at that early stage, I used to change him on a cloth nappy to catch any spills.
Used to HATE it when he managed to wet all his vest and yet another suit, but the cloth beneath him saved that.

Drape a bit of kitchen roll over it - prevents the spray and absorbs a bit of the water too.

Jasmer, I remember those days with my ds. The very first time I changed him by myself in hospital as soon as I took his nappy off he wee'd backwards up into the air all over his face and then started to lick his lips. yuck!!! I would put a wipe over his willy as soon as I opened the nappy and I always wiped him with the old nappy under him. Then remove old nappy, quickly slide in new nappy and wipe bum.
I only know about bf poo's, but your ds's sounds entirely normal! It gets worse so enjoy it while you've got it. You will look back on these poos and think how wonderfully pleasant and odorless they were.

I used to put a wad of toilet paper over their willy.

Its just a knack that comes with practice. I got reasonably skilled at it. Its like now with DS (22 months) - if I change a dirty nappy I use 1-3 wipes depending on severity of contents - DH uses virtually an entire pack.

ds wee'd in his own eye once. That was nice. He finds the story hilarious now (he's 5). I used to be as fast as pos and hold his willy so it was pointing down and into the nappy I was about to put on.

I'm a culprit when it comes to using loads of wipes for poos.

Me too. Dh wanted me to always use cotton wool and water for pooey nappies, but funnily enough that disappeared once he had changed a few!
