Prescription goggles - any experiences?

Dd is short sighted. She is also a very keen swimmer.
She is finding it increasingly tiresome not being able to see properly in the pool and asked me if I could find out about prescription goggles.
Does anyone have any experience of them at all?

My dh had a prescription diving mask. it was, I would have to say, not an attractive object, but it certainly did the trick. He had the cheapo version where they just bonded HUGE plastic lenses onto the mask, so it did make the thing slightly unweildy. I THINK that was because he has crap eyes a complex prescription, though.

They are fantastic.

You can buy them at most opticians, they come in standard prescriptions (half sizes) and you buy them over the counter.

They look the same as normal goggles, you'd never know!!

lol at mybestfriend...]grin]

Really MicrowaveOnly?? So they don't need to be made specially? Would I get them in Specsavers or suchlike?

Got a pair of prescription ski goggles and ski sunglasses from this website: gosportspex. Very pleased with both product and service.

I have a pair that I ordered through my optician. They were 35 quid, and you can get each eye made up to the nearest 0.5 of your prescription (if that makes sense). It has transformed swimming for me. My only (small) complaint is that the straps work loose a bit more than normal goggles (but this is only when I'm taking them on and off a lot because I've gone to the pool with DS and we're messing about rather than just swimming. Could also be the brand).
They also makes swimming with kids in tow SO much easier as I used to be terrified of losing track of them (the kids), given that I'm practically Mr Magoo.

I bought them from an optician years ago and they have been excellent. There are much nicer ones available now (mine are rather basic!). I am sure that I saw them advertised in a John Lewis sports catalogue that came free with the Sunday papers. I couldn't go swimming without mine.

Thanks so much everyone. Dd has just found out she's been chosen to swim for the school in an inter-schools gala (London wide) next month and I know she'll so much more confident if she can actually see the end of the pool
Will take a trip to her opticians tomorrow.

I had them for scuba diving and they were great. Well done your dd!
