School Constantly Wants Money

School's are becoming a joke with asking parents for money or food donations all the time! In a time where everything is so expensive i find it really cheeky! My daughter 8 ( only child ) has only been back to school for 3 weeks, and her school has already asked for donations for... Jeans for Gene's day which was 50p the first week back, then her class teacher yesterday has asked for £1 donations for a raffle for a chance to win a sweet hamper! Which I find they do this because kids will go on at parents to give money for a chance to win sweets! Ridiculous, it's only September and the donations have started early, with many more to come, total joke!

I understand some donations probably go to the school, but I along with many other parents find it annoying seems like all the time asking!

It is a request, not a command. Give where you are able to, or don't if funds are too tight.

It would be great if they didn’t have to do it, right? But they have to ask to be able to provide what they need for your child. The charity donation would not have been an obligation I would have thought. And the raffle is optional too? Just explain to your child that they can’t enter everything.

It's an optional £1.50

It will no doubt be raising money for activities or IT equipment. No-one organises a school-wide raffle for the fun of it - funding has been cut repeatedly.

No-one will care if you don't want to send in £1.

Would you prefer the school didn't even try asking for optional donations and just stopped replacing ipads, turning down the heating, cutting activities?

Was the £1 for a raffle ticket, or to go towards buying prizes for a future raffle? If it's for a ticket, good opportunity to teach her about probability...Wink

Seriously...? It's an optional 1.50 for good causes ....

AnneLovesGilbert · 27/09/2024 13:17

So far we’ve had £1 to wear jeans, food items for harvest festival and a £15 “optional” trip.

I wouldn’t complain about £1.50 unless it’s all you have in the bank.

Send a stern letter to the Board of Governors complaining in very robust terms.

50p a week doesn't seem OTT at all.

Would be more inclined to question the sweet hamper though, aren't schools supposed to be promoting healthy eating? Most restrict packed lunches and only allow water (not even diluted juice).

Doesn't seem a lot! I was expecting an endless list

Back to school disco Monday.. Includes a cup of diluted juice and a small muffin..
Cost is £5...... After school club is cancelled to hold it. Meaning I have to leave work early also.
