So you've received an invitation to a baby shower which is in a neutral venue (ie. not someone's home).
Food and drinks will be available but you have been asked to pay for these yourself. Is this a reasonable request on the part of the organiser?

By neutral venue do you mean like a cafe/bar type thing? If you’ve been invited and it’s for a meal/afternoon tea then I think it’s totally fine to expect everyone to pay for their own meals yes. I’d never assume if I’m invited to a meal or afternoon tea for a baby shower that the organiser will be paying for everyone.

Yes, it's restaurant/bar type place.
Thank you-that's what I hoped you might say!

No worries! I think generally if you’re being invited to something like that it’s always expected to pay for yourself unless explicitly told otherwise, only if it’s in some kind of function room/someone’s home would I think you’d be expected to put any kind of food/drinks on x

Invitation to me means the host is paying.
