I used Jeremiah Clark's March in D. Have you spoken to the organist (if you're having one) for his/her recommendations? They will probably be pieces he/she can play well.

(Keep music live, that's what I say!)

maidamess · 20/04/2008 14:24

Do you want classical or more modern? is it a church wedding?

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 20/04/2008 14:30

I had string quartet play 'Queen of Sheba' (Slower Version)
Sounds quite arsey but was lovely.
couldnt stand the idea of a cheesy cd/song. The only song I could think of that was personal to me and that would be appropriate was 'I know him so well' Barbara Dixon Elaine Page(reminds me of my grandad he loves it) But I got them to play that while we signed the register. Felt too sad for me to walk in to. IYKWIM.

Elasticwoman · 20/04/2008 14:33

Queen of Sheba is a good one. It is suitable for organ. I have played it piano duet. Handel, isn't it? Which reminds me of

Zadok the Priest

That will wake them all up. Are you having a choir?

Another one bites the dust

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 20/04/2008 14:40

LOl at another one bites the dust
My Dh wanted our first dance to be 'Please release me, let me go'( he thinks he is very funny)
But as I found the whole first dance thing uncomfortable for me, we didnt bother. Had a rock band.
Yes it is Handel. I bet Piano duet was lovely.

PONCE ALERT

It sounds dreadfully poncey but I used a track from the film 'The Piano' by Michael Nyman. I loved the score and our wedding was in a lodge in Richmond Park and it just seemed to suit.

The Blues brothers - gota get out of this place .....

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 20/04/2008 14:48

I dont think its poncey at all.Sounds Beautiful, but IKWYM I was worried people might think I was an arse when I booked the string Quartet. But we didnt have a church wedding so couldnt have organist. We had a civil ceremony at Whitley Hall (Grenoside Sheffield) and like I said earlier couldnt stand the thought of a cd player.
I also sang a song at the evening reception.
God just re read this think I do sound a twat

Lozza70 · 20/04/2008 15:06

We had a civil ceremony and I walked up the aisle to All I Need by Air. We were both into that kind of music anyway and the wedding was on a small island in a lake so kind of dreamy music suited. We had a great time in the run up to the wedding trying to chose the music though. Many Saturday nights and many, many bottles of wine while listening to our entire cd collection!

chocohead · 20/04/2008 16:28

Its just a small wedding so probably will be off a cd, the ceremony is at a hotel

I like classical and modern so open to all suggestions

I will have a listen to all so far

Thanks so much

AIR ........All I need
Which is gorgeous

saltire · 20/04/2008 16:34

Well I had this. Although obviously I didn't have the Scots Dragoon Guards
My friend had All i ask of You, from Phantom of the Opera

madamez · 20/04/2008 16:37

Depends very much on your and your DP's music taste: what are your fave songs? Do you prefer pop/rock/classical? It's not a bad idea if your tastes run to pop etc, to go and look at the 'romantic' or 'love song' compilations in record shops as you might suddenly remember an old favourite.
Yellow by Coldplay is apparently a popular one these days (though I can;t stand them myself).
However, before committing to a song you should listen to it carefully and maybe google the lyrics, as some songs have a lovely chorus but the verses give a slightly different message...
For instance You're Beautiful by James Blunt is shite unsuitable because the verses are all about how he can't have the laydee he adores. ANd there are few worse ideas than You're Gorgeous by Babybird...

I would go for something without words then nothing can be misinterpreted/laughed at etc. Something like

Pachelbel Canon
Grieg Holberg Suite (find a bit you like!)
Queen of Sheba

ruty · 20/04/2008 16:43

how about 'Your Love Keeps Lifting me Higher' by Jackie Wilson. would put everyone in a good mood. Or you could have it at the end. Friends got married on a Friday and had The Cure's 'It's Friday I'm in Love' as they left the church, but that's a bit of a specific day song!

dizzydixies · 20/04/2008 16:45

we had

'it had to be you'

which was brill - dh and i had decided as nobody else would have had either of us lol

ruty · 20/04/2008 16:47

i like that song justjules.

maidamess · 20/04/2008 16:51

this was mine
makes me go goosey! The lodge was all candle lit and wintry.

dizzydixies · 20/04/2008 19:52

it had to be you ignore wanky intro and use original
