that our loft conversion starts in 4 weeks.
Somehow in that time with two DC under 3 , I have to source all fixtures and fittings, decide on decoration, empty and sort loft(no mean feat)

I AM NOT READY ahhh - didn't think it would happen for at least 2 months.

They won't be ready ofr most of that stuff for weeks. Do Not Panic.... In reality you have 8 weeks beofre you need to have the stuff.

bobsyouruncle · 19/04/2008 12:47

Oh this is no help but I'd love a loft conversion! What will it give you - bedroom/s? Is it very expensive?

posieflump · 19/04/2008 12:48

do you have anyone to help you?

SoupKitchen · 19/04/2008 13:07

They have said 3 weeks to plaster finish - so ok 7 weeks til I need that stuff, thanks for the voice of reason.

Dh works all the time but have ds nap time when dd is in preschool to go online.

It will increase the house size from 2 doubles one single to 3 doubles and office space so ideal for our family of 4.
Works out to 11K so much cheaper than moving

so what do you need to get?

I have had a loft conversion done but apart from the bathroom fittings they supplied everything else.

sophierosie · 19/04/2008 13:26

11k - that's an excellent quote - whereabouts are you as I'm looking to convert and would like recommendations!

bobsyouruncle · 19/04/2008 13:47

Are you putting stairs in the single bedroom? That's what we were thinking of doing, I'd like a big bedroom and a bathroom if possible. That's a great price in comparison with buying a bigger house!

SoupKitchen · 19/04/2008 20:28

I'm in Essex sophierosie
Yes bobs the stairs are going in the single bedroom, hence that will become the office space.

I need to choose the light fittings, door handles, style of storage I want.

What a bargain!

Ours could start in as little as 4 weeks, but expect it will be more like 6, as we're just waiting for the full detailed quote at the moment.

Thankfully we don't have to source anything ourselves, as we're contracting a single company who take care of everything for us.

Don't forget to take 'before' pictures!

SoupKitchen · 19/04/2008 20:49

Oh maybe we can moan about the mess and stress together csws.
I hadn't thought about piccies, good idea

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 19/04/2008 20:58

I'll be able to moan more than you I'm sure, as we're having a new conservatory built, a solid roof put onto our existing conservatory (which opens out into our kitchen) and our driveway completely redone and the front garden refenced all at the same time .

sophierosie · 20/04/2008 08:19

Soupkitchen - I'm in Essex too so will be interested to know who you're using! Did you need to get planning permission? Are you having dormer windows?

V exciting for you!

SoupKitchen · 20/04/2008 12:59

Didn't need planning permission as not having dormers, but we are doing it under building notice.
We are using a local guy who has done a couple of friends lofts, we are in southend

OP posts:
SoupKitchen · 20/04/2008 13:00

Dont fancy getting all that done csws

sophierosie · 20/04/2008 20:26

Don't supposed they'd want to travel to colchester

Shitemum · 20/04/2008 20:32

We are just finishing a whole house renovation. Off the top of my head these are my tips:

If you are going to have a sink without a pedestal and with a nice shiny chrome pipe underneath you need to tell the plumber becuase the down pipe will not be in the same place as if it was a pedestal sink.

Don't go to loads of different places to find fittings and finishes, you'll go mad. Keep to a limited choice of suppliers, unless you really can't find what you like.

Try to stay within budget!

My neighbour buys a lot of his stuff when he is doing up his house form screwfix direct. All online and delivered next day I think. He swears by them...
