Hi...looking for advice..my mother is filling out her attendance allowance form as she has needed help in the house for 6months plus. She has put down that her daughter..me..has moved part time from usa (I quit my job to come stay with her I've been here 20 weeks on & off since Dec '23). She needed driving to hospital visits, help after surgery etc cooking, cleaning, dog walking, driving etc I seem to be flat out everyday.. or...can you not use family? It does say put down who is helping you even if family. I wonder if they won't like that I live in usa & am commuting between both countries...I am a UK citizen? Any advice would be welcome. Thank you in advance

I don't think it should matter? Attendance allowance is based on the person's needs - those needs don't change dependant on who's assisting them.

It's an indication of what type and level of help is needed. It doesn't matter who you are or where you live, because it's not a payment to - or - for you.

If you weren't there (and moving between countries you often won't be) she'd need to pay for that help. Which is what the AA is for.

If you get this moved to the Elderly Parents board you'll get a lot of advice.

I applied for my mum and was successful- a lot of family help was included in the form.

Don't worry about it - if there is a need which there obviously is then it will be paid . I do a lot for my dad and I put everything I did for him on the form - but I don't live with him so he still needs extra care .
