As ds's are on the computer all the time now, I was thinking about getting them a typing programme to start teaching them how to type properly.
Has anyone tried one, or more specifically
Disney typing adventure with timon
or Edalive typing challenge?
TIA x

I want to find one of these too. My dds are very keen to learn, so I shall be watching this with interest.

Hi Pesto Do you think I've put this in the right place or is it going to get ignored do you reckon?

My children like BBC Dance mat typing

Is it the done thing to learn to type properly these days? I don't know. I know that it irrates the hell out of me, when I watch DD typing, but she's getting very fast! She's 12 btw. I know she can remember where most of the keys are already, because half the letters have come off my keyboard, but because I can touch type, it doesn't bother me!

Thanks Juuule for that...
I can't type properly, and that irritates the hell out of me! Hoping for a programme that'll teach me too

The children at the junior school I work at love this one - you can get it for £20 for home use.

We love the BBC dancing mat one too - trouble is they do really well when they are doing it, but I notice when they are typing on their own (homework, whatever) they go back to one finger typing - I'm on their case, but not sure how to get them typing naturally.

Here's another one.

My DS1 is doingthis at the moment. It isn't free but he is really enjoying it and doing well.

Also the lesson book sent each week can be used later for any siblings. Perfect for me with 4 DC in all!

Many years ago we used Mavis Beacon Teaches typing - my DS was 6 and my DD was 8. It had (and still has) customizable lessons which they liked - by using e.g. the 500 most common words as practice children's spelling comes on a treat without effort. Most programmes should deliver the result - it's really a question of what will appeal to the individual child. Will they want a more "grown up" type programme or game based. Daily practice of five or ten minutes is the key so it needs to really appeal to them. It's a great skill to have later for projects, GSCE coursework, etc.

If your dc like sponegebob then this is worth a try. I bought it for dd and she really enjoyed it before she lost interest
