I just called this tea room as I saw that they don't allow under 8's in and I was curious as to why.

Apparently the lady I spoke to said the management had a long standing policy of this and it was because they "serve cafetieres and there were a couple of nasty accidents with hot drinks"

So really they are just doing us a favour.
Blimey.

I said to her I find it curious that they say that given pretty much every other cafe ever serves hot drinks but lets kids in.

Very odd.

I work with little ones all day everyday, that's why I book holidays in resorts that do not accept children, so when the ski chalet we booked ( min age 16) had a family of two screaming brats babies in it I complained vociferously and demanded a refund, got one too! I felt sorry for the poor mum, she didn't know that it was an adult only chalet. wasn't that horrid to her, honest!

It's a polite way of saying 'we don't want small children here'. Make of that what you will

Ali - think it's totally fair of you to say that - if the chalet was for over 16s it's not on that kids are there. Likewise I wasn't going to go to the cafe given this rule.

We got thrown out of All Bar One when DS1 was 3 weeks, and boycotted it for a while, but between he and DS2, we did go there a couple of times because we knew it was child free.

So only young children knock over / get injured by hot drinks? If that was the real reason, they wouldn't be serving hot drinks full stop!

i didn't know that places could actually ban children! unless they serve alcohol and need a special license??

I always boycott places like this. Plenty of restaurants and cafes to choose from nowadays and I will take my money somewhere else.

We went to Tobermory (balamory) a couple of years ago on holiday and a few places had the "no buggies" sign up. Funnily enough, now that they have stopped making Balamory the businesses in Tobermory are moaning that business is down. Well, sorry, but if they hadn't have been such a lot of miserable cunts people might have gone back for more holidays.
