hi WT.

Long time no see. I take it DH is not so good if he's in the hospital?

Want to get together for that coffee sometime soon? (I'll bring my own milk )

You know, you could always ring for a taxi to bring you some... but it will cost you the taxi fare as well.

Or, you could order a pizza to be delivered and see if they'll bring you some milk as well...

expatinscotland · 12/04/2008 20:59

in the future, keep one of those canisters of powdered milk in the cupboard. it's rank, but it will work for tea.

or some of those wee single containers of milk - i pinch them from places and keep them in a drawer for such occassions.

or you can freeze milk into ice cubes and pop a couple in your tea in a pinch.

WallOfSilence · 12/04/2008 20:59

Quint, who cares if she just wants to chat... last time I checked there wasn't a law against it...

iwouldgoouttonight · 12/04/2008 21:01

I have just had same problem with cheese. Was in the middle of making lasagne and realised no cheese to put on top. Our shop is also only 5 mins away but wouldn't risk it so made do with combination of cottage cheese and wensleydale with cranberries in.

Top of lasagne was very dry and odd tasting!

QuintessentialShadows · 12/04/2008 21:01

No that is the point, I dont believe she is seriously considering 5 minutes each way, AND gathering her items, maybe queue and pay, we are looking at 15 minutes.

Fine if she wants to chat about her predicament, as sure it is irritating.

EffiePerine · 12/04/2008 21:02

QS: you OK? You seem a wee bit touchy. I have some peanut M&Ms if you'd like them...

Mumcentreplus · 12/04/2008 21:02

'Milk in your tea is more imprtant than the safety of your kids?'..woah the womans not going Sky-Diving!..lol

SquonkTheBeerGuru · 12/04/2008 21:03

quint - I think you're being harsh tbh.

WT has asked for our opinions. You've given yours.

Now she can make her own mind up.

And we're here if she wants to chat.

artichokes · 12/04/2008 21:04

I would not think it so bad if you did. I have left DD asleep in her cot to go to our cornership. Its only 7 doors down the road, on our side of the road, so its very unlikely something could happen to me. Also DD sleeps in a cot and cannot get out of it. I am there and back in less than 2 minutes.

wrinklytum · 12/04/2008 21:08

OK,OK,thanks for all suggestions!!No I will not leave the kids unattended!!!But I was tempted for a moment as I could murder a cuppa.Neighbours are back so am going to try to scrounge off them.

Hi Squonk,no haven't mumsnetted for a while as lots to do in RL.dp poorly again, readmitted x3 since his 5 month epic stay but just for weekly/2 weekly stints.Would love to catch up sometime when things a little less mad around hereHope you are well and making lots of delicious cake Was it orange drizzle cake you made for that picnic??It was yummy whatever it was.

Sorry I dont mean to be harsh. I am just amazed at how many people contemplate leaving their children behind even if it is just for a minute. Anything can happen. What if she forgets her key and cant get in again? Or mugged! What if she is run over by a car?

I am probably just over cautios. The likelyhood of that happening is probably zilch.

So fine, I have changed my mind. Go get your milk. I allow you.

SquonkTheBeerGuru · 12/04/2008 21:13

I do not agree with leaving kids on their own. But...

my mum once left me and my brother on our own while she popped over to the neighbours. She was gone for about fifteen minutes, and as she let herself back in the front door, she could see smoke coming from upstairs.

So, she rescued me and big bro, called the fire brigade who came out and put out a rather large fire started by clothes coming into contact with an electric fire in mum and dads room.

She swears that if she had not gone out (to come back in again) she would not have realised the house was on fire till it was too late for us - and maybe herself as well.

Although, if she had been gone longer, twould still have been bad news for the two of us.

~Anyhooo.... WT do you still have my email? let me know when you are free - I can do weekends or Tuesdays (other days by prior arrangement with dp so I can have the car )

Sorry to see dh bad again.

wrinklytum · 12/04/2008 21:15

I am just going to go away. Your thread was not irritating me, but I could see the irritating predicament you were in. I just can phrase anything today.
