i have to have a wisdom tooth extracted at the beginning of May.......my dentist has suggested i take valium to help me deal with my extreme nerves over this but i'm wondering if it will affect my ability to drive.

i'm just asking if anyone has any experience of this because if i can't drive then i have to think about travel arrangments for the day....

I wouldn't drive

Valium knocks me out, and i feel awfully hungover and foggy for 24 hours afterwards

queenrollo · 11/04/2008 13:28

ok.....i've never taken it before so not sure if it would be a problem or not.

that's wise - also if you are feeling a bit wibbly afterwards - I had a minor op a few months ago and was very dizzy afterwards (shock and nerves)- fortunately only had to walk home but only after lying down for half an hour ! good luck and am sure it'll be fine

well i am fortunate that my dentist is an old school friend, so he is very aware of my past issues with dental work......he's extremely patient with me.

In fact i only plucked up the courage to go the dentist after years of avoiding them because he joined a local practice. I'm still very nervous about dental treatment, but his patience has probably meant i won't put off visiting again......

good for you !

Valium is definitely a good idea if you're that wound up about dental treatment.

I had it once when I put my back out and it was like being wrapped in a cashmere blanket and rocked to sleep by your mother.

I can totally see why people get addicted to it!

valium is very good at taking the edge off nerves, but I wouldn't drive - because to have an effective dose to deal with the nerves will render you an ineffective driver.

I don't think you should drive anyway; the discomfort afterwards may distract you from driving properly

Hope it goes smoothly
