What would you buy to transport in suitcase to USA as a thank you gift for an extremely wealthy person? It's a teen who's taking it so no booze, I am super stuck just can't think of anything at all.

Nice ballpoint or rollerball pen

OolongTeaDrinker · 05/07/2024 19:19

Some nice biscuits and other food stuff from fortum and mason?

Cerialkiller · 05/07/2024 19:19

Are they an expat from the UK? Could you get something you can't buy here they might be missing? Branston pickle?

Otherwise, Shortbread? Real chocolate that doesn't taste awful. Scottish tartan blanket.

Cerialkiller · 05/07/2024 19:21

Tea pot, Tea service, Single malt whisky.

HermioneWeasley · 05/07/2024 19:21

Not a millionaire, but I took Leonidas Belgian chocolates for an American who couldn’t believe the quality - said it was the best he’d ever tasted (they are my favourites!)

Cerialkiller · 05/07/2024 19:24

My half brother lived in the states for a while and when he travelled back to Europe his friends always asked him to bring back chocolate. They can't really get the equivalent there I think. Strange laws about importing.

Cerialkiller · 05/07/2024 19:25

I think kinder eggs are illegal to be sold there. So kinder eggs!

YankTank · 05/07/2024 19:27

Big tin of nice M&S biscuits, tin of M&S tea, etc.

PoopingAllTheWay · 05/07/2024 19:28

Cadbury chocolate !

Redshoeblueshoe · 05/07/2024 19:31

Why can't they take alcohol ?

DoverWight · 05/07/2024 19:34

The person taking the gift is under 18, plus drinking age in US is 21, so I think customs might have a problem with alcohol. Fancy chocolate is a good idea. Needs to be kosher too.

I think I'd take some sort of British food that you can't get in the us...maybe posh biscuits, chocolate or English tea

Inthemosquitogarden · 05/07/2024 19:38

had the same conundrum with multi millionaires in another country. I went to liberty and got some really cool liberty print x chilly drink bottles and reusable coffee cups. About £50
or so. Also fortnums biscuits in the beautiful Tins. Recipients were genuinely thrilled.

Inthemosquitogarden · 05/07/2024 19:39

Fortnums can cater for kosher ✅

WholeHog · 05/07/2024 19:41

Maybe a book about Britain- photos of London, or coast, or great British trees, or rhyming history of Britain?

NewMe2024 · 05/07/2024 19:44

How much space does teen have? The mini Fortnums hampers are so cute and you can choose the contents.

HoHoHoliday · 05/07/2024 19:51

The person's wealth is irrelevant. What would you get as a thank you gift for anyone else?
If you are in the UK and it's going to someone overseas, you could make them up a collection a British treats - biscuits and chocolates. If it's someone you know, a nice jumper, tie, some other clothing that you know they would like.

StopInhalingRevels · 05/07/2024 19:53

Generically, a very nice version of something ordinary.

Tom Ford shower gel.

Also, what is the relationship between the 18yo and the rich person? I dated someone uber rich once, and found personal stuff was the most appreciated. For valentine's I once found some pics of him and his horse in an online magazine, and made a framed trio of pics. He treasured that.

But if not a personal level connection, stick with nice shower gel/perfume etc

NuffSaidSam · 05/07/2024 20:09

I'd go for good chocolates.

But more importantly include a card with some thoughtful words. This will be worth more than anything you can buy.

LilyJessie · 05/07/2024 20:14

Take that they're wealthy out of the equation.
Just send something thoughtful, that makes you think of them.

thriftyhen · 05/07/2024 20:14

Something from Fortnum's or The Biscuiteers.

Inthemosquitogarden · 05/07/2024 21:04

But the huge wealth really is relevant. my millionaire friends can buy all the diptyque candles, Tom ford body wash and Aesop hand soap they like with their weekly shop. It’s like me turning up with a pint of milk. Where they live they can’t easily get fortnums and liberty products (for example) and they genuinely love it as gifts.

LilyJessie · 06/07/2024 13:18

I don't agree with that. Not to be antagonistic, but I think if they're your true friends it wouldn't matter if you can't "keep up with the Jones" and buy them fancy presents.
Ultimately, if they do care that you've brought something within your price range and haven't been able to buy fancy stuff in theirs, then simply put... they're not your friend at all.

Fortnum and Mason is nice, and would be a lovely gift. But only if the person can afford it.
