How can I get rid of an old piano?

We bought an old upright piano earlier in the year for a pittance - we naively thought it just needed to be tuned but the piano tuner has given us an estimate of £200 to repair it as it is in quite bad shape.
We have decided to look for another piano but will need to get rid of this. I don't think anyone will take it off us for the same reasons but the thought of taking it to the dump is really depressing...
Any ideas?

The piano tuner who came to us is the same one who does the primary school - and I don't think he'd be too pleased to see it turn up there as well!
I may well advertise it locally - there may be somebody who can give it a good home!

kangasantamummy, I am in west london and I have a piano that needs tuning. Any idea of what your bil charges? Could I have his contact info. thanks.

If you are buying another piano from a music shop (and following your bargain experience may I suggest that would be best)then they will take the old piano away for you. Where I used to work they didn't charge for this. Any decent shop should then provide the first tuning after you have let the piano settle for a couple of weeks to a month.

Old pianos are not worth more than new pianos. If you want a piece of furniture then sure buy one. If you want something for your kids to practise on and stay motivated get one under 50 years (and preferably 30 years) old.

SofiaAmes did you get CAT with BIL website details?

My mum told me tonight that he hurt his back last week so may not be back at work yet.

Yes thank you. I tried to send you a return email to say thank you, but the email got returned to me. I am still trying to catch up on paperwork after 6 weeks away, so probably won't call for a week or two.
