Should I move to Bacton, Norfolk

My family and I (hubby, DS8 and DS3) are moving to Norfolk from Essex. My mum lives in North Walsham. We’ve seen a house on North Walsham Road in Bacton. What is it like to live in Bacton?

It’s a quiet little place with nice beaches. Several good pubs and plenty of good walks if that’s your thing. Don’t buy too near to the coast because of coastal erosion. Also, the gas terminal isn’t particularly pretty but you can avoid being too close to that.

Thank you! This is helpful.

I love Bacton and around that area, but I wouldn’t chose to live there, as it would be too quiet for me. Have you considered Norwich? More to do, small, safe city. We relocated from the south coast to Norwich 3+ years ago, without doubt the best move we have ever made, very settled here.

Thank you, really helpful too. We are leaning towards a house in Rackheath but we’re finding nearby schools are full. I will be working in North Walsham during school hours too so we’re worried the kids will end up at a school that makes driving to NW every day too difficult and too far. So we’re looking at this Bacton house too but I’m also put off by it being further out and a smaller village. Lots to consider!

I personally prefer a bit further down in Martham, Potter Heigham, Hemsby way. Schools are lovely.

Bacton is very isolated and transport links aren’t great. Whereas Rackheath has good transport links and easy access to both the city and coast.
Buses are provided from Rackheath for the high school in Hoveton.

@EssexToNorfolk
Just make sure you don't buy in an area at risk of erosion or flooding. Sea levels are increasing and inland flooding is increasing too. Norfolk had huge levels of rainfall this winter/spring just gone.
Check the Environment Agency flood risk maps.
