FGS why do people think that just because I have no car, they can park across my drive

I don't have a car no, but most people who visit me do. Bloody woman who only lives about another 10 houses up from me, has stopped off at next doors and despite there being a space on the road outside my house, she has chosen to park further down, completely blocking my dirve.

What is wrong with some people.

They think that their needs and requirements over-ride everybody else's.

137wallis · 08/04/2008 17:41

ah my neighbours do this all the time! then have the cheek to ask if they can brorrow the drive when my hubbie is at home too!

Freckle · 08/04/2008 18:18

Put a note on her car saying that you are expecting visitor who will want to park on your drive, so could she please avoid parking across it in future.

my lovely neighbour used to let me park across her drive - she had a dropped curb and no car.....was fab. Sadly she moved yesterday and bloke that moved in has 2 cars. Sigh.....

Twiglett · 08/04/2008 18:21

becuase they can .. it is not illegal to park across someone's drive, it is only illegal to block someone in by parking across their drive IIRC

ChippyMinton · 08/04/2008 18:22

I think the law is that you can only be done for obstruction if you block in a vehicle parked on the driveway. Do what I do and get shouty

Twinkie1 · 08/04/2008 18:24

Why do you care if you don't have a car?

They are not blocking you in and are doing nothing illegal!

hana · 08/04/2008 18:24

could be good community relations
agree, if you don't have a car, what's the problem?

CrackerOfNuts · 08/04/2008 18:25

Tbh i don't care if it's illegal or not, it's just plain rude, especially when there was a space right next to it which wouldn't have blocked me in.

She went shortly after I posted, but if she does it again I will go out.

OP posts:
CrackerOfNuts · 08/04/2008 18:26

Because it is my drive, and if someone visits me they should be able to park on my drive, and not half way down the street.

OP posts:
CrackerOfNuts · 08/04/2008 18:27

Oh ok then, next time you all go out and come home and can't get on your drive, i'm sure you will all just park elsewhere, for 'good community relations'

OP posts:
ChippyMinton · 08/04/2008 18:28

Agree, it is very annoying. My elderly neighbour has no car and other neighbours' visitors park across her drive. When her daughter visits with heavy shopping she has to lug it up the road. So I go out and get shouty on her behalf too. I ask people where they live and can I come and park across their drive when they go out. That usually hits the spot.

hana · 08/04/2008 18:30

I don't have a drive - I had lovely neighbour who let me park across her drive as she didn't have a car >

if it bothers you so much, they you have to go outside and say something to the people that are parking there

Twiglett · 08/04/2008 18:30

not in law though, it is only a sense of right rather than an actual one

I don't like people parking outside my house full stop and I don't even have a drive but I like to park outside my own house .. so I do know what you mean but really you just need to suck it in

hana · 08/04/2008 18:30

oops

then

branflake81 · 08/04/2008 18:31

Don't see why its a prob tbh, if you dont have a car. At least you have a drive way!

hana · 08/04/2008 18:32

ok, some helpful suggestions

what about some big planters to block drive?
Or maybe gates that you can shut when no one is parking there?

Because if relatives visit me in MY house, they should be able to park on MY drive.

Sorry, i didn't realise I should be so bloody grateful for having a drive for others to park across

OP posts:
CrackerOfNuts · 08/04/2008 18:34

Not sure i'd be allowed to do the gates hana, as it is a HA house. Planters would get nicked.

I'd not have been SO botherd if it weren't for the fact that the woman has her own drive about 10 doors up, and there was a space next to my drive.

OP posts:
hercules1 · 08/04/2008 18:35

It's a pain but posters are right about there being no right if there is no car parked on the driveway.

Twiglett · 08/04/2008 18:39

you think and believe they should, but it is not a legal requirement for them to have access to your drive

people can park on any stretch of road they wish to if they've up to date car tax that is

speak to her nicely, she might stop

hana · 08/04/2008 18:42

actually - have just been thinking and they were daft suggestions as that wouldn't prevent people from parking across the driveway, sorry

CrackerOfNuts · 08/04/2008 18:43

Tbh there are several certain familes that don't seem to care where they park and annoyingly they always seem to leave their own drives empty.

Most of them probably don't have up to date tax discs either, but i'm not about to check that out as I value my life LOL.
