thank you in advance.

DS has decided he would like to learn to play and before we even get to the cost of a piano and lessons, I need to know if we can actually fit one in one of our small rooms somewhere! width height and depth needed but am too embarrassed to shopping with my tape measure. So if you could help me out I would be so grateful.

we have an upright piano, will find a tape measure and get back to you

length is 142cm or 56inches, depth is 59cm or 23inches, height is 124cm or 49inches, this is a piano with full size keys etc hope that helps

Ohhh it's a little too long and deep will have to think some more about how to fit one in. Dread to think how much lessons are if we eventually manage to get one.

Now ya see, mine is only 52" length and 21" depth and 44" high!

When my dd started piano lessons we bought her an electric keyboard because we didn't know would she keep up the piano long enough to make the investment in a piano worthwhile.
It lasted her for the first couple of grades, then she needed more keys or something, and was very neat and easy to store.
Piano is 23"depth, and 55" length.

potoftea · 08/04/2008 12:57

Sorry that should be the piano we have now.

different sizes interesting.

Know what you mean potoftea, we have talked about it for about a year now but that is still no guarantee that ds will remain interested. Someone said you either go the electric keyboard route or the standard basic piano route. I didn't like to ask why assume it's difference in tutors or something.

We've got two at the moment in our dining room (one being looked after for someone else) and they are COMPLETELY different sizes. Mine is about 5' high, 18' sticking out into the room and normalish length - the other one is much shorter, much narrower, but about the same length. You might find that there is a good piano shop where you can pick up a 2nd hand one anyway - and you would be able to take your tape measure in or ask about measurements as they will all be different. Our local 2nd piano shop will do a good deal whereby they will sell you a piano and, as long as you have them regularly to tune it (2x per year?) they will guarantee to buy it back at the same price they sold it to you unless there is any significant damage.

Hope it goes well
