Help, help!! I have just been totally freaked out by a horrible man's angry voice playing on my laptop as I was reading a thread on mumsnet.

Does anyone know what the hell this is?? Am I being a real techno phobe, or am I going mad??

THe thread is the 'Are all third babies the best ever' one, and the scary angry voice popped up when I was hovering over StirlingMum's post on thurs 03 Apr at 13.06.

It says "You make me sick. Get out of my sight, I wish you had never been born. I HATE YOU"

NOt the nicest thing to hear (it's my birthday too )

Please could someone tell me if this is a normal thing to encounter on MN...

I think it's an NSPCC ad - your cursor must have strayed to the right hand side of the page.

It's the nspcc advert on the side
gave me the shock of my life too

Happy Birthday!

FrannyandZooey · 07/04/2008 20:19

oh nice! even more glad I have ads blocked on here now.
mumsnet really know how to choose them sometimes don't they?

HighlandFling · 07/04/2008 20:22

Oh right. Blimey, good ad. Although have to say didn't see a banner for it or pop up or anything.

Maybe cos I am on a mac?

Anyway thanks for getting back to me so quickly - can now settle down to watch 24 the 2nd series and quaff more sauvignon blanc...

nspcc ad agency really do use the most offensive tactics, that and the name book

HighlandFling · 07/04/2008 20:26

By the way, this is the kind of thread where the immediate response makes me feel all warm and fuzzy and happy that there are all these other mums out there just waiting to swoop in and save the day in times of need...!!

The NSPCC does use rather extreme tactics in order to get attention. I know it's a worthwhile cause and all that but their methods are rather dubious IMO.

There's also been a lot of criticism of the 'big name' charities for a. paying directors and chief execs very high salaries b. sitting on millions of pounds of savings c. using such extreme tactics. Don't know if any of this applies to the NSPCC but if so, it would make this approach even more reprehensible.
