Anyone sleep on a different floor to their children?

Just wondering as we are buying a three storey town house. the master bedroom is ont he first floor, next to the lounge. The three further bedrooms are on the second floor, along with the bathroom.

This means that Dh and I will sleep on the floor below DD. DD will be just over 3.5yo when we get in there. But we are TTC so at some point a baby will go on that floor too - at around 6 months or so.

How do you find it?
How much hassle is it to have children on a different floor?
What are the benefits?
What about safety issues - in case of fire, etc?

Any advice or insights would be great. Thanks.

Yes. We are in a 3 storey house. When we moved in we put ourselves and ds1 in the two biggest bedrooms, which are on the top floor. Then we had ds2! He is on the middle floor now, which also has the bathroom and the spare room/study/general dumping ground room. Ground floor is living room, huge dining room open plan kitchen and Black Hole of Calcutta (also known as under stairs cupboard).

The fire thing does worry me but I try not to dwell on it - we have smoke alarms, take all sensible precautions, and have had wiring checked. I do wish we had a second bathroom on the top floor (especially when I was pregnant and had to trek down the stairs ten times a night) We still use a baby monitor for ds2 if he is poorly - just in case, with him being on a different floor, we didn't hear him in the night. And when we moved in when ds1 was 4, we used a baby monitor with him at first because of being two floors away when we were watching TV at night.

But, on the whole, the pros outweigh the cons - I love this house, I love the space and the size of the rooms, and I'm sure the stairs do me good.

I was brought up in a five floor regency house and apart from the stairs which my poor mum had to climb I don't think it was a problem. I slept on the first floor while M&D slept on the second. I still managed to find my way to their room to get into bed with them. Tbh, so many people I know have loft conversions that living on more than two floors is getting commonplace. If the fire aspect concerns you I'm sure your local fire station will be able to offer you advice. I don't think a living room on a different floor is that much of a problem. Our living room is on the same floor as the kitchen/family room but we spend all our time huddled up in the latter despite the nearness of a larger space!

We live in a town house with dining room, kitchen, cloakroom and integral garage on bottom floor. The lounge, family bathroom on and dd's bedroom are on the 1st floor and we are on the top floor with an en-suite and ds's bedroom.

Wasn't good when dd wasn't sleeping through and I spent many nights sleeping in the lounge so I was on the same floor as her. Now it's fine although I don't like the fact that there is no play/relaxation area for dd on the ground floor when I'm busy in the kitchen.

We are also thinking of putting on a conservatory but only have a small garden so a little undecided. Would be cheaper than moving in order to gain an extra room.

As for the garage, it's never had the cars in there. It houses the washing machine, dryer, bikes etc and is full up. We were thinking of converting to another room but were told would knock money off the house.

I should add that DS3 (6 1/2) still comes into our bed in the middle of the night. He doesn't seem to have any trouble at all negotiating the stairs up to our room - perhaps if he did, he'd stay in his own bed all night!
