have tried sticking hand down, have tried coathanger, have tried wire thingy from hardware shop, have done caustic soda, have now done sulfuric acid (the dolphins, the dolphins, they are dying cause of us!). cannot do a laundry wash until unblocked.

is dynorod-150-quid-for sticking a thing down there my only option?

you used to be able to buy the rods from places like wilkos and home bargains

peanutbear · 06/04/2008 20:10

or do you have a jet wash because I used mine once and it shifted it

Heathcliffscathy · 06/04/2008 20:16

we don't have a jet wash. can you still get the rods? we got a very thin black wire thing (like a flattened wire) and it didn't do a thing.

I,m not sure we were in a shop once and I thought it would be a great idea to buy them DH was not as sure

I think private companies out of the paper do it for cheaper than dyno rod well they do in Birmingham

Niecie · 06/04/2008 20:18

I paid £67 for drain unblocking a few months ago if that is any comfort, not £150. Not Dynorod though, a local firm.

If you don't have the rods I don't think you have much choice though.

Bellie · 06/04/2008 20:20

Dyno rod are a fixed price of apporx £100 regardless of how long they are there. Some of the smaller companies charge per 1/2 hour so can work out a lot more.

If you havn't managed to shift it yourself, it sounds like you need a pressure jet that dynorod can do

SammyC · 06/04/2008 20:21

Which drain is it?

Heathcliffscathy · 06/04/2008 20:22

outside the back of the house, next to toilet and where washing machine is.

Is it a shared drain?

Local councils sometimes will sort it out if it's shared and there are children involved.

Other than that I would call a local firm ..

If it's flushable wipes.. they don't flush..

SammyC · 06/04/2008 20:25

what goes in to it? just the washing machine? or the toilet also? what age is your house?

We had the blocked drain due to soap powder - the powder builds up apparently. Should be easy to clear with the right rods.

I would check your drain is not under local authority as due to age and poss fabric type it could well be the LA accept responsibilty. Good Luck.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 07/04/2008 08:06

If your house is that old then ring your Water Company and get them round. It may be their responsibility.

I used to clear blcked sewers for a living for one of the water company's.

Its very unlikely to be anything to do with council/local authority as they have passed sewer responsibility onto water companys in 99% of streets now.
