help me sort out this problem with a bed i bought....

dp and i bought a new bed....it was in the sale, base and mattress for £600, full price would have been nearly a £1000.

when it was delivered they put it together and dp noticed a very slight bend in one of the bars at the end (it's like an old victorian brass bedstead)....and the delivery men said they would inform the shop manager and arrange to have a replacement sent. It's been nearly three weeks and we haven't heard anything, so i'm going to phone the shop.

I'm more than happy to have some money back, as the bend is not so bad that it's irritating me, and it will be less hassle than having to arrange day off to be there so they can dismantle the bed to replace the end.
What i'm struggling with is what would be a reasonable amount of compensation to ask/settle for.....this isn't something i've ever had to do before, and i don't want to put in an unreasonable request, but at the same time if i don't want them to think they have got away with it. It is a lot of money to spend and not get what i paid for IYSWIM.

any ideas/suggestions welcome....

How about 10%? I am quite cheeky in shops - if something is damaged slightly I ask for a discount and this is the usual answer. Although, to stick my nose right in here, I would go for the replacement bed end if it was me. You are going to be looking at it for ages, plus if you ever want to sell it in the future it will affect the resale value a bit. Could you pick up a replacement bed end and swap it yourself? Agree that deliveries are generally a hassle!

well the bend is barely noticeable, you have to look at it from the right angle.
We're not likely to sell the bed at any point.

It was such a hassle getting a bed, the first one we bought wouldn't fit up the stairs (rented accommodation so couldn't remove the offending cupboard)....so we had to go back and choose another one.

i think i'll see what they'll offer me....or i may leave it to dp, who will probably do better than me!!

Re:10 %. That's a pretty reasonable discount to ask for. I worked in a furniture shop (Laura Ashley) and that was our usual discount for any slight damage, be that to a cushion or a large item such as this.

thankyou for that nicky....right then, 10% it is......
