buying goods when you move house

we're currently trying to sell our house. It has been suggested that the buyer should pay for some items not included in the contract by giving a cheque to the agent to pass on to us when they are sure everything is there and undamaged. I find this very offensive. If you've bought anything when moving did you do this? If not were they included in the sale price, did you give the vendor a post dated cheque or what?

Be interested to know if there are differences between London and the provinces on this - I've never heard of it before.

I'd take everything that is not included and they're not paying for. Ot if I didn't actually want the carpets, spill something on all of them before I left...

Have to say I insisted the sellers remove a very worn carppet that was included in the purchase price of my first flat. I didn't want the hassle of getting shot if it myself.

Don't contracts normally specify that "rubbish" is removed? Think ours does - which is why I thought we had to remove the carpets. If they won't pay for them then obvously they see them as rubbish, don't they? Even if some are only 2 years old. Pamina sounds like your buyers are the type who would be embarrassed to have a satellite dish - one of my current neighbours is like that. Not one of my favourite people

Now they are worrying about what we will say to our neighbours about them - only the truth. I suspect they'll fit well with the people on either side but not with all the village....

What do you think folks - do I give the grate and/ or fret to Oxfam or leave it?

No way would I give these people my address - although they would be able to get it easily as it will be known to a lot of other people. We've arranged mail redirection with the Post Office. Not infallible but neither would I trust our buyers.

We're going to leave some of the carpet, the grate, telephone and maybe a few other things. They could have had a lot more.

I'm not grateful to our buyers because our house has a very special coastal location. There would have been another one along later. We'd already turned down offers better than their first two offers and only accepted the third (still well below the asking price) for a quick easy sale.
