That's what i thought, i wondered why the status was desirable?? Was mostly amongst gay men IIRC. Is a small minority obviously but a very interesting documentary all the same.

link i found;adult content

Must have been in the early days surly? Amongst the gay community maybe?

The reality of living with HIV is not very nice actually and is pretty isolating and lonely.

OverMyDeadBody · 28/03/2008 13:24

Oh, that makes me sad!

Interesting comment from the psychologist that people partacting actually have some sort of anxiety disorder.

The documentary explains it all more; i remember it was on TV a couple of years ago and was so memorable it just stuck in my mind all this time.

I can imagine living with it is awful and i do not understand why you would seek it. A 21 year old did and became +, now regrets it and he is only my age.

i cant actually believe it was 17 yrs ago he died

biglips · 30/03/2008 15:59

yes anangelwithin as the words on that song was obviously all about himself...i had and still get a lump in my throat - so sad

I think Freddie Mercury always knew he wouldn't make old bones. I recall an interview in the early 80's, when presumably he didn't yet know he was HIV+, where he was asked what he thought he'd be doing in 20 years time. He replied along the lines of 'Twenty years time? I shall be dead by then, darling!'

I saw him perform in the 70's. What a show, fantastic, and I still can't see a harlequin jumpsuit without blushing!

scorpio, many years ago I did a stint ona Infectious diseases ward and it was mainly AIDS patients we cared for at the time, and most of them were gay (this was early 90's...) and we had characters coming to visit at times, who could possibly be described as Bug chasers...I remember very clearly how the boyfriend of one of our patients boasted that he finally tested HIV+ and he was pleased as punch...it was very surreal, but he had lost a fair few partners to AIDS by this time, so, I did wonder if he maybe almost felt guilty for not being HIV+ whilst loosing so many of his boyfriends and close friends...but of course I wondered that in silence...
Freddy Mercury was a real star, I think....he was somewhat special!

Totally irrelevant to the current subject, but did you know he was born in Zanzibar? He is quite a local tourist attraction there, you can visit the house he lived in.
