Anyone done a good photography course in London?

Would you recommend your photography course? Just want to get to grips with using a digital SLR. Can't commit to a long or expensive course. Or has anyone ever got a photographer to give some one to one lessons?
London South or South West best, or possibly central if a weekend course.
I'd love to hear your experiences. Did you feel a course noticeably developed your skills?

Haven't done a course as such, but there are some excellent websites and podcasts out there for beginner enthusiasts.

Two great podcasts that I love are:

The Digital Photography Show (audio only)

Photoshop User TV - okay, that's more about post processing with photoshop but still very good.

Blogs that are useful are:

Digital Photography School also has very good forums and weekly assignments etc.

Photojojo is great for some really creative and bizarre tips/projects/ideas.

Scott Kelby's site Bit more advanced but he's a bit of a photography guru and is well worth reading.

That reminds me - Scott Kelby has written some fab books - well worth hunting them out at the library. The best one for beginner SLR owners being The Digital Photography Book - not a very snappy title I know, but probably the most recommended photography book I've come across.

Also check out camera manufacturer's sites - they quite often have various tutorials up on site that are worth looking at.

I'll have a think for some more, but they're good starting points!

Meant to say - digital photography school is currently doing a back to basics style 101 series of posts at the moment, so particularly worth reading.

ooh will definitely check all of those out! Thank you. It can only help to gather as much info as possible before a course anyway.

Mostly you should just take loads and loads and loads of pictures That's the beauty of digital.

Start following a few people who are better than you on Flickr or other photography sharing site - work out why their images are more pleasing... what do you like about that image - the composition? the subject matter? the post-processing? Can help you get a feel for what sort of pictures you'll enjoy taking most.

Read a few basics on photo composition (just google - there's BILLIONS of sites with tips on composition, really helpful)

Spending loads of money on a course can be helpful, but nothing beats just going out there (or staying indoors!) and taking LOTS of pictures I can see huge differences in the quality of my pictures from a year ago, two years ago.... four years ago. But I do need to get some more data storage
