Charity Collection Boxes - are kids allowed to collect?

Hi,

My kids have come home from school with these charity collection boxes, they have has sponsorship forms etc in the past but this is an actual box to put the coins in.

My initial reaction was great, kids can do some charity collecting, but I get the feeling stuff like this would require a permit or something? Has anyone come across this before, would we get in trouble if the kids stood outside a supermarket for a couple hours to try and fill their boxes up a bit?

You'll need permission from the supermarket for a start.
I'd be inclined to ask the school for their guidance.
Quite often these boxes are designed to collect small change from families over a period of time or they may be specifically for 10p or 20p pieces.

I'm surprised schools are still doing these collections as so many people don't carry cash anymore.

Yeah, I’d agree it’s for loose change. Doubt they’re expecting kids to go around random strangers trying to collect cash!

As others have said it’s intended for collecting small change from family and visitors. You aren’t supposed to go out collecting at supermarkets.

Did school not send out a letter with the boxes? Agree with pp, these are for collecting on the home, not going door to door or stood in a public place.
