Full Moon

So after DP tells me he feels 'strange' today and yesterday and doesn't know why, plus me reading something about false labour increases during the full moon I've been looking up about the supposed changes to people and the way they act during the full moon phase.
A lot of evidence seems to suggest there is something in it, see here for example, but there is also a lot saying it's rubbish.
What is your opinion?
Do you feel different or notice changes in anyone around you?

Oh yes! absolutely, especially men and boys!
Bad attitudes, grumpy, and often depressed. I always know without checking, that there is a full moon coming or here!

Dp gets full moon fever. or pre moon tension as we call it. its pretty spot on. He gets very similar symptoms to pmt, communication goes a bit all over the place. If he goes into one of his weird moods I always check if its full moon and almost always it is.

Pavlovthecat · 23/03/2008 02:11

is it full moon now? in US? (does that make a difference?). I would figure it is.

S1ur · 23/03/2008 02:25

There's a very long history of thought to this. My current opinon is that is that it makes less of a difference then in the past. We spend less time outside and are less affected by th seasinal changes around us therefore. Saying that I acknowledge that women still have that spooky convergence of periods if they live together.

but then. We are special, aren't we?

S1ur · 23/03/2008 02:25

seasinal wtf!? seasonal obv.

Pavlovthecat · 23/03/2008 02:28

Slur - I agree to a point. Many men dont seem to be effected by it. DH has spent a childhood outdoors, and whilst he does not spend half as much time outside, perhaps he is more 'sensitive' to it, either from his earlier outdoor experiences, or his own predisposition. A bit like how some women suffer more with pms than others.

What I do know tho, is it is absolutely true of Dh - oh I called him DP, newlyweds you see...

S1ur · 23/03/2008 02:36

I think, that spending your time outdoors does make you more prone to affectation from the seasons or (oddly) moon phases. Admittedly the moon phases affectation doesn't appeal to my science brain! BUT I am willing to investigate and accept tha it is more than placebo/culture effect.

Pavlovthecat · 23/03/2008 02:39

It defintely more than placebo, as DH has had these moods for years and years and years and then I was talking to a friend who's DH works on psych ward and i was not convinced, Dh thought I was crackers. Just so happened that the next time he behaved in a weird grumpy mood, not just usual grumpy mood, it was full moon, then again, then again, then again.

I do think that men go through hormonal patterns in a simialr way to women. Albeit, less documented or extreme . It would make sense that they are similarly effected by seasons and biology as women.

I don't notice it in my dp but he is a cool customer

I thought it was because we are largely made up of water and the moon affects the tide(water), therefore it is plausible that it should affect Human beings also...?! The pull of the moon...
