Is anyone using a babysitter on New Years Eve? If so what is their rate, as I imagine it is more! Thanks

So tell me, Where in Gods name do you find someone willing to Babysit on New Years Eve?

bluesky · 22/12/2004 17:27

Personally I can't stay up that late anymore! (Am asking on behalf of a friend. She thought I'd know, I obviously look like I have a wild social life!)

mistletoe, you get lucky, and then have to pay them sacks of gold I imagine!

we use this agency babysitter and they normally charge around £5ph but just checked their website and they say £15ph for NY eve . We've not used them for new year's so don't know how easy it is to get someone but I reckon you'd have to be going somewhere pretty damn special to pay that!

bluesky · 22/12/2004 17:45

thanks for that link, interesting!

£10 ph before midnight, £20 thereafter, minimum 4 hour booking, but must pay at least £50 (even if you want 7pm - 11pm say). Not a hope with my agency of getting a sitter at this notice:- we were warned to book to New Year back in early November.

(Usual rates are £6.50 ph at the weekend)

thanks ladymuck

We usually pay £4 per hour, plan on being out 6 hours, were going give an extra £11 to make a round-ish figure. Now my sil is leaving her kids here too (and they are 6 months and 2 - mine are all grown up at 7 and 10) so will prob give £30 each. Is that too generous?? Will she expect £60 next year?

Mind you she will prob have a byfriend by next year and then we will never be able to go out again........................

fairyfly · 22/12/2004 20:32

I will babysit for anyone, don't want to go out, don't want to stay in, want to keep busy, fantastic with children, perfect solution, willing to travel, also being serious

CountessDingDongDrac · 22/12/2004 20:44

We are paying £10 per hour, our nanny is doing it. Sophable and her dh are leaving their dd too, and they are paying her £10 per hour too so she is quids in! She has to give them a lift home too!

mckenzie · 22/12/2004 21:28

Grandma offered to have DS overnight and it's free! We consider ourselves very lucky but have to make the most of it as next year they'll be 2 of them to consider and we might not get such an offer again!

gooseysgettingfat · 22/12/2004 21:33

I charge my normal overnight rate of £20 between 8pm and 8am and £2.50 per hour for every other hour/part hour. That's to have them stay at my place to include supper and breakfast. I still have one space going and am a registered minder.
It's just another day/night for me and I don't believe in ripping people off.

mistletoe · 24/12/2004 09:56

Goosey, where do you live?
