Hello all. Any advice is welcome here.

At the moment I work part time due to an unforeseen event and I get Universal Credit. I'm on the page to try and sort out the fact I cannot attend an appointment (I have to see a Lawyer, its all a messy family business) and all I'm getting is a service unavailable page

What can I do?

There is a service centre number so you could call and leave a message. If unable to do that just contact asap afterwards and check to do list for message about missed appointment.

@RaininSummer I didnt want to have to cancel my appointment either, I feel like a right fool and there really was no way to cancel or change the lawyer's appointment, I did it all over the phone so I have no paper proof.

I'm new to UC, will they ask for proof?

Leave a message on your journal and ring also be prepared to be sanctioned until you get to the job centre because they might not deem it urgent enough to warrant missing the appointment for

Ostryga · 10/01/2024 08:21

Call them now and let them know. If they don’t deem your reason good enough though they might possibly sanction you.

I have uncontrolled epilepsy and cannot attend appointments due to having seizures left right and centre and they tried to sanction me! So if you can switch your other appointment I would see if you could do that.

@Ostryga I wish I could switch the other appointment but it's nigh on impossible as the case is going to trial - today is basically formalities and what not before the court date in two weeks. Long story short, stepmum has been abusing my dad and he's going through a divorce - she's being difficult about it (promising to change etc, not taking accountability for her actions)

Hi, can someone please know the answer for this :

My husband is working and since we have a joint claim, jobcentre confirmed that i am not required to commit working due to my husband having enough earnings but they also said that i can still apply for LCWRA due to the health issues i have.

I am wondering if after the health assessment incase they decide that i am not eligible to LCWRA or i am able to work with some support or limited hours, will that mean i have to take or look for work and will void my exemption from work commitments which i have at the moment due to my husband earning enough ? If yes, then i am thinking not to apply for assessment because scared that if it fails then i will be required to look for work etc which i know is not possible for me with all my health issues.

Or, it will be that i will just not get any extra amount for LCWRA but there will still be no work search requirement provided my husband's earnings enough and just applying for an assessment regardless of whatever the result is will not change anything with regards to my commitments which is at the moment.

Also, as i understand the LCWRA is £354 a month but will there still be deductions from £354 depending on income of my husband, every month ?

No work commitment if do not get LCWRA but husband earning enough but if his earnings drop then Yes. Yes the element is still part of overall figure which has earnings deducted after work allowance if applicable.

ive Just had a migration letter for universal credit. These 5 week appointments, do u have to attend them in person or can you do telephone appointments?

FedUpMumof10YO · 08/02/2024 05:47

It's in-person. Mine was less than 5 minutes and she didn't even look at me.

No questions were asked - she just looked at my bank card.

Bish bash bosh job done 👍🏻

Hspin · 08/02/2024 09:50

But can you avoid being there in person for your appointment with universal credit? Do u have the option of a telephone call instead?

If it’s your first appointment to verify you can’t do it over the phone, they need to see your documents.

if you can't attend just put it in your journal and tell them why, they're usually open to rescheduling but if you could provide proof of seeing a lawyer this would be really helpful.
