There was not one pair of shoes in the whole of town to fit DD!

Argh!

We go on holiday on Saturday to Spain and Dd really needs to some summery type shoes. Last years sandals and pumps don't fit any more, and her Crocs are getting on the small size. We have the next size Crocs already but they are massive on her.

But we went shopping in town today and went to every shop we could find - and not one had a pair that fit her! We tried Next, Gap, Adams, Clarks, John Lewis, Jones, USC, Office, Foot Locker and probably more!

She is a 12F, so not a weird size at all. And we did manage to get her a pair of school shoes about 3 weeks ago without too much trouble from the local independent shop (they were Startrite shoes).

But today they were all just so wide and gaped when she walked. It was madness.

So, on Tuesday I will try the independent shop after school, otherwise Meadowhall on Friday morning (although that is mostly the same shops again).

Argh! What is wrong with shoe sizing these days?!

last september there was not one pair of shoes in the whole of London Town to fit either DD1 or DD2. not out of season summery tyrpes - boring black school shoes. it was hell. think the shoe manufacturers have never met real children - they're all designed on aliens.

only shoes i could get were sandal types for dd

The seasn timing didn't seem wrong - the shops all had their summer ranges in. Just none that would fit!

No idea what to do. Last year's Lelli Kelly pumps are too small now, but the next size up today were too wide and gaping. Ditto her sandals, and even her party shoes. And nothing today - and we tried on so many shoes of different styles and mkes! - would fit her properly.

Go with a pair of sneakers and buy a pair in Spain, they'd be cheaper

Hulababy · 16/03/2008 21:42

We don't have any trainers as DD desn't wear them - make her feet sweat really bad. We even tried to get just basic pumps - I had told DD we could jazz them up with pink lacy ribbons instead of laces. But nope, they didn't fit either.

A width fitting of F is not that narrow! A friend's DD was E fitting till recently. Why are the shoes so wide?

However, I think we will look in Spain too and get a couple of pairs whilst at it!

Had the same issue with dd in Feb - ended up with the girl in an independent shop digging out some doodle type things from last year. Would second buying sandals abroad - we always bought dd's sandals in France as she had narrow feet when she was younger. Seem to be a narrower fit.

LIZS · 17/03/2008 15:57

yup can believe it - dd is a d/e fit.

Hulababy · 17/03/2008 19:34

You must have no chance Liz!

Think we will manage in her old Crocs till we get to Spain then.

We had probs with dd1 and school shoes last year.

cmotdibbler · 17/03/2008 19:38

I'm sure you'll be fine at the independant shop - DS has the other problem of very wide feet, and the indie shops have no problem at all, and even a choice of shoes. Clarks look bemused.

Hulababy · 18/03/2008 21:44

Went to the independent shoe shop today and managed to get some sandals Had a choice of 4 pairs in the end which was good, so DD chose some pretty white Startrite ones with flowers on them. There were a couple of really nice ones, a French make, but I couldn't justify £55 for a pair of sandals!!!

We can only go to an independent shop some miles away as DD has a C/D (!) fitting. They can usually oblige, but it means ordering in and going back 2 days later. The choice is never huge - we usually end up with a VERY expensive German make

My son has H width feet and when he was little he had to wear orthorics. It was a nightmare finding shoes of any description.

You could look on the internet, but make sure there is the provsion to send them back if they don't fit.
