Excited for Christmas

Are your children beside themselves with excitement for christmas. I just got them an advent calendar each and they are so excited. Also they are rehearsing school plays so we've got Jack and the Beanstalk versus Hosanna Rock singing all evening in this house.
The shops are all packed as if christmas is tomorrow, long queues everywhere and empty shelves.

We're going on holiday on 12th and I am so excited, sadly I think I'm the only one that is. My DS wasn't even able to think of anything he wanted for Xmas except a Playstation (which he's not getting as we've got a Dreamcast). R

We're off to Santa's Kingdom at the NEC tonight. I know it's early but in spite of booking as soon as I heard about it, this was the only time I could get which wouldn't impact on her schooling in some way.

I told her at the beginning of the week that we're going to a surprise place on Friday and she's so excited. I just hope it lives up to it.

We've been making nativity costumes too and school has made an advent calendar - I think they are counting down to the end of term - only two weeks away.

We had confirmation of our tickets home, today and we'll be at the airport in exactly two weeks time, so yes, I'm getting that festive feeling. I'm a little worried at everything I'll have to fit in during the 10 days leading up to Xmas but it'll get done somehow and if it doesn't, it couldn't have been that important, right??

Although the shops here aren't really Christmassy they are decorated for Idul Fitri (Dec5th) so everywhere is bright and cheerful. The school is putting on a play and yesterday I helped dd's class decorate the tree. And last week I found some advent calendars!!!!! They are chocolate ones, which I dislike, but hey, they're better than nothing.

My dd (2 3/4) is by turns excited though she doesn't really kmow what about) and annoyed. She said she didn't like Santa (when we saw a picture in Woolies window in town) and I said it was OK, Santa brought you presents. She was so sweet, she said 'I've got plenty toys I don't need any more'
We made the advent wreath yesterday and she was excited by that, but thats because she knows the story of it from her story book.

My two just can't wait. Ds has already been to see FC - twice!! Dd won't go because she is scared of him. The trouble is the shops have been decorated since just after Halloween and the kids thought Christmas was just around the corner then - so it's pretty difficult trying to convince them they have got another 3 and a half weeks to go!!

We are going to Legoland on 23rd December. Apparently they are going to have carol singers wandering around and Christmassy food and at dusk FC arrives on a boat to meet everyone and theres a big light show. Can't wait!!

However, don't know if any of you have found this, but my two get soooooooo wound up on the 'big day', it usually ends up with them both getting over emotional and bawling their eyes out. My dh thinks instead of using our money to buy pressies and food etc, we should just go off on holiday somewhere and forget all about it - tempting, but I just couldn't do it to the kids!!

SueW, I saw the ads for this. Do tell us what it's like (from your POV as well as dd's). Hope you both have fun. We're meeting Father Christmas on the Bluebell Railway in Sussex this year.

helenmc · 29/11/2002 12:51

Suew - how long ago were you sent your tickets for Snata's kingdom. A friend has booked for 15th but she hasn't got her tickets yet

SueW · 29/11/2002 13:39

I booked on 27 Oct, looking at the tickets and I received them almost immediately - in fact, the envelope is franked (on the back, strangely) 29/10/02.

Hope your friend gets her tickets soon. It would definitely be worth a call I'd say.

And yes, Marina, I'll report back as to whether it's worth booking for next year.

Have just heard A42 southbound - the route we want to take - is closed due to head-on smash between two lorries. NIghtmare for those concerned no doubt but now frantically looking for alternative routes.

Leaving in five mins ... wish us luck!

MABS · 29/11/2002 17:15

Suew - how was Santas Kingdom, did you make it ok ? Don't tell me if it was bad as we're off to it at Wembley next Wednesday!! Anyone who hasn't recvd their tickets should look at the website as there's a 'ticket tracker 'on there.

Rhiannon · 29/11/2002 17:31

KKgirl, we're going to Barbados. I'm filling the case with Pringles, Winders and cereal. Hope we don't get stopped at Customs!

SueW · 30/11/2002 04:13

MABS, my top tip would be that we didn't need to dress up as warmly as suggested for the Kingdom itself (although we did for the walk from car park to NEC forum). By the time we got to the end, DD had stripped off her coat and was wandering around in a long-sleeved t-shirt and there were times we felt quite warm.

It wasn't as good as I thought it was going to be (but was first night I think so perhaps team members not quite into the swing of things and I am a growed-up after all!) but the most important thing was that DD really enjoyed it - on the phone to my dad later she was full of it!

The snowslide was good fun even for an oldie like me - and DD's face was a picture. She loved it.

Our tickets were for 7pm but thanks to my super-dooper journey planning, we got there over an hour early in spite of the A42 problems. No problem though - we just went in when we arrived.
