Outdated Lasagne - Will I get sick?

I bought a Marks and Spencer's lasagne three months ago and froze it until yesterday where it has now defrosted and ready for me to cook. Just a little bit apprehensive as the cooking after freezing label says to eat within three months, though the date is 23/09/23 which is just shy of the dead on three month mark. Do you think I'll be ok to eat it without getting food poisoning?

It’s within 3 months - what on earth are you worrying about???
And I’ve eaten lasagne that has been in the freezer 18 months and it was fine.

DGPP · 11/12/2023 17:13

Most of the food in my freezer is way older than that. I never follow the 3 month guidance. It will be fine

BananaPyjamaLlama · 11/12/2023 17:14

Its within 3 months and its been in the freezer for the past 3 months. Absolutely nothing to worry about. If you left it in the freezer for another 6 months and ate it then, it would still be fine.

TisTheDarnSeason · 11/12/2023 17:14

Huh? It's well within the 3 months and those dates are very very conservative anyway. You could have left it frozen for months more. As long as it was cooked through properly you have absolutely zero to worry about!

Daisies12 · 11/12/2023 17:14

You do know that's well shy of 3 months? And also that best before dates are the biggest scam going, they do it to sell more.

TisTheDarnSeason · 11/12/2023 17:18

What exactly do you think might be wrong with the frozen meal that you're eating within its 'eat by' date?

No wonder we supposedly waste billions of £s of food in this country every year.

OP probably has emetophobia

AdaColeman · 11/12/2023 17:20

The use by dates for frozen food are more about the deterioration of flavour and texture than food safety aspects.
You will be fine, as long as the food was cooked thoroughly, as with any frozen food.

OP probably has emetophobia

Well, that's a given on MN 😂

I didn’t know dates on frozen food was even a thing until I saw it on here. As long as it’s not freezer burnt it’s getting ate in my house, and that’s only because the taste and texture is affected. I’ve not long ate a leg of lamb that’s been in my neighbours freezer for over 2 years

I am going to start linking this everywhere on MN

muddyford · 11/12/2023 17:25

It's been frozen for three months. You aren't eating it raw. Just cook it and eat it.

edierichards19 · 11/12/2023 18:29

Thanks for the help. I was just posting as I have Emetophobia and was slightly worried, that's all (and I know it's a given on MN according to some users responses). Again, thank you for the help (and some slightly rude answers).
