First cloned baby due January

Yes, just read that an Italian doctor has confirmed that the cloned baby is in its 33rd week of gestation. What do you all think? I'm totally against this, scared that the human race has offcially gone mad and let its ego rule its thoughts... We have to stop power hungry minds grabbing our lives and changing them, irreparably. There are advances in medical science which can help human life to thrive and then there's this. A totally pointless exercise with its foundings in personal gain and we are powerless to stop it. Its not the baby that is important in all this, its the glory....

What kind of women agree to be impregnanted with such babies? I'm amazed. I wonder how much they were paid.

Desperate women. Probably slightly gullible as I should imagine the risks have been seriously downplayed. I would doubt they would have been paid but seeing as how expensive fertility treatment can be, I would imagine this technique was offered free or very cheap to tempt them.

Great! A desperate woman who is dying for a baby, probably already been through baby traumas...gets a baby for perhaps a couple of days before it dies. Most of the animals that they have cloned have very very short life expectancies.

Disgusting. I'd prefer to think they were being paid to be honest.

I know what you mean, Bobbins ( Unrealistic though.

argh - that was not meant to be a grin that was meant to be a sad face... damn typing.

Suedonim: what you said about SE Asia was fascinating!

Bobbins: I presume that the pregnant mothers are either married to the clones, or are carrying clones of themselves. The Italian doctor has said that he primarily wants to clone to help infertile couples, so I don't think he would readily get involved with a situation where the women was being paid to carry the baby, and had no other relationship with the clone.

There was an American (?physicist) in the USA a few years ago who was adament that he would either get himself or his wife cloned & she would then carry the clone, ASAP. I suspect that they are one of the couples involved. The others appear to middle-easterners (?rich Arabs?).

I can't help thinking about that film/book; The Boys From Brazil, where they clone little Hitlers.
