Might be helpful if you explain quite a bit more.
Do you actually have a business idea? Or are you expecting someone to give you one?
Do you want a company? Sole trader?

Hi thanks for your reply. I do aplogise. I already have a business idea. I would like to keep my business at home even if it becomes successful i would still like it to be at home so i believe that would fit under sole trader. It would just be me doing it.

This is a strange choice of board to ask this question on. It's hidden away and not well visited. You'd be better off posting on "Work" or even "Chat". First rule of business: know where to find your target audience!

You'll have to give a bit more info about the business idea itself even if you don't say exactly what it is. Otherwise no one can really help you. For example, does it involve goods or services, or both? Have you read anything online about being sole trader? There's tons of information available.

Yes to all this.
Also OP, you can have a company running from and registered at a home address.

Do you have experience/expertise in your idea?
Have you researched your market?

Hi both thankyou so much for replying. I didnt really know which topic to put it in as there wasnt an own topic for self employment. I want to base it around personalised products.

I do have skills and experience in doing the products.

I havnt read much on being a sole trader.

I just wanted to try and get a plan together first not like a business plan as i have one of those but an action plan like a to do list. I want to make it successful. I know where to get all my products from. I know the audience i want to advertise it in front of. Just not really sure where to start or what to start with.

Thankyou

Starting from hi6is an excellent idea. You can make many business deductions for using your personal space. Make sure you get a business insurance. As a sole trader you are liable for any damage to anyone resulting from your products etc.

The Gov.uk website has all the info you need to technically “start up” by registering with HMRC and keeping records. It’s not too complicated if you take it step by step.

Spend time learning internet marketing as that will be most of your job - you need to constantly advertise (start on Pinterest for free) consistently, effectively and for a long time before seeing returns.
