Is it cheeky to ask for a reduction in rent this month as have had no hot water for two weeks?

The ancient immersion heater sprang a humungous leak and the plumber (that I had toorganise myself) has had to wait for a new tank to be made as the one that is already here is such an odd size that he can't buy one. This means that we have been without hot water for two weeks. My landlord is very laidback and as a result the flat is not really in the best state of repair- I was promised a new kitchen was imminent when I moved in, and that was three years ago! My rent is £600 a month, do you think that it is reasonable to ask for a reduction this month? We were away for a week of that time, so I suppose weren't at any real inconvenience, but it has been playing on my mind that had the leak happened when we were away the damage would have been huge, as out electric box is in the airing cupboard and would have been submerged . As it is all of my bed linen is ruined, so am pretty miffed about that anyway. Is it reasonable to request this?

Give it a shot and see what happens, he's hardly going to evict you for asking!

By all means ask whether he will consider a rent reduction for your time without hot water BUT if he refuses, there is unfortunately no legal grounds for withholding rent and doing so would put you in breach of contract and potentially taken to court for eviction proceedings

Ask him about claiming on his building insurance for ruined bed linen though
