Sorry no advice really, I tend to just do it. I keep them about for a whilen when the next lot come I leave them out while grabbing the others when dd is not looking chuck some of the older ones out. Could you not even sneak the older ones out one at a time over the course of a few weeks?

It is horrible I always feel guily doing it too but I just do not have the space to keep everything.

I used to suggest to ds that nanny/grandma/uncle/auntie/bob next door would love you to make one for them etc etc.

nervousal · 11/03/2008 11:33

best to just get rid of them when he's not there and then feign ignorance - "no idea where they went pet?" Just make sure you put them in the big bin outside and not your kitchen bin - otherwise you're faced with "how did my bike/monster/castle get in there Mummy?? Why are you throwing out my bike/monster/castle??"

You could distribute them among the family as 'gifts'

I'd explain to him about the space issue, take photographs so that he can put them on his wall or in an album then recycle the bits so that you do not have to buy any more pipe cleaners etc. Let him choose his favourite and keep that one. It's lovely that he is so creative, he must be an absolute joy.

Invent a penpal who would loves cardboard models and would love to swap for erm, say stickers or books.

Send him a letter begging for swapsies.

Then weekly help him compose letter and wrap up a precious model to 'post', then each week post yourself a book.

He could be called Pedro or Gustav.

LadyMuck · 11/03/2008 11:40

Lots of photos.

Have a one in, one out rule. He can keep his favorite ones, but if it is coming to live int he house then one of the others have to go.

Pruners in all honesty....I lie.
Hmmm sorry B have no idea where that one is while using a facial expression of pure inncence that I learnt from dd anyway.

Occassionaly I have said right you HAVE to choose on to go since you have just brought 3 more home from nursery and she generally picks the one that is barely hanging on by the sticky tape that has already had bits fall of and go in the bin anyway.

i blame our cleaner .

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 11/03/2008 13:45

It is fantastic that he is so creative, and why wouldn't he be proud of and treasure them?
I can understand your issues with space but could you not get him some carboard storage boxes he could decorate and keep them in?

GooseyLoosey · 11/03/2008 13:47

I have a box that they all go into and when the box is full, whatever is in the bottom disappears! The dcs seldom get to the bottom of the box so no tears.

If he likes making new ones, can you not deconstruct the existing ones for parts?

rey · 11/03/2008 13:54

I put them out of sight for months when they are not mentioned they vanish to the bin but on collection day not before just in case they happen to help sort the bins. Some I cannot allow to vanish and they gradually work their way to the garage when dusty enough I find it easier to allow them to vanish.
