Business Name for a Kids Cookery School?

Standupfosocialjustice · 06/10/2023 19:53

Okay so this is driving me bonkers.....

I am starting Kids Cookery Class business that I will evolve into a social enterprise but I am SO stuck on a name!

I've tried a heap of online name generators and they're all a bit rubbish! I even paid someone on Fiverr to help me come up with a name!

Problem is, I've now thought TOO much about it and I'm probably overthinking it, but I wanted something to sums up, Kids, cooking, learning, growing and fun and I'm just going round in circles!

Sounds easy but it's really not! some good names I like are already taken Anyway I have the following. Just seeking a bit of a steer on it ... Wondering what you think of these and/or you have any other suggestions please.

Cooklings
Cook Bright Kids
Cook Explorers
Foodoodles
Gourmet Giggles

Thanks in advance :-)

I agree with keeping it simple.

What ages are you catering (pun intended) for? If junior, then having words like kids, little, mini, are fine. If older than twelve, you need something more generic, and less cutesy.

(location) Cookery Club
Kids Kitchen
Big Chef, Little Chef

Big Cook Little Cook

Little Cook Big Cook

Big Cook Little Cook is the name of a BBC TV programme, so I'd keep well clear. Not just because you'd be nicking the name, but because people might expect similarity to the show and be disappointed when there was none.

Of your original list

Cooklings - OK, I suppose
Cook Bright Kids - no, sounds like an instruction (because of the interloping "bright" that just doesn't sit right
Cook Explorers - yes, easily the best
Foodoodles - nope, sounds like the latest fancy poodle-cross dob
Gourmet Giggles - no, far too frivolous

Smart Cookies

Little Kitchen

or something with your name e.g. Jen's Cooking School.

I agree with a PP though put your location name e.g. "Smart Cookies Lincoln" in the business name, you don't have to use it on the logo if you don't want to.

Thank you for all your suggestions, there's some really good names here. I do like Smart Cookies and the toen name. 😍

I did this as a business for a short time and called mine 'Cook Club'

Thank you @LoveRules. Out of interest, did it take off? And if you don't mind me asking, why did you only run it for a short time?

I've looked at franchises but the cost, management fees, advertising levvies & restrictive operating policies made me want to do it myself. Haven't got a spare 5 or 10k lying around so paying back a loan on top of franchise fees didn't make business sense.

Plus I'm very creative with a business background and I know I can make it work Not meaning to be big headed there but franchise sales tactics try to make you believe starting up alone with no support is an extremely bad choice.

Plus the show’s widely known as Big Cock, Little Cock.

I’m so glad! Best of luck with the business it sounds awesome! Out of interest how will it work? Weekends or evenings?

LaurieStrode · 07/10/2023 18:17

On reflection, Smart Cookies is best. Short, snappy and memorable. Easy in conversation (and word of mouth will be important.)

"Oh sorry, we can't make it; the twins go to Smart Cookies every Saturday morning."

"Yes, he learned to make lasagne at Smart Cookies."

"She baked her own birthday cupcakes at Smart Cookies."

(Though still like Mini Chef)

Loadsa Dough

What ages are you looking at OP? Smart Cookies is a great name for younger children but I think if you were looking for 10-13 years it might put parents/ kids thinking it's for younger kids only. Of course if it is for younger kids then it works really well.

Thank you.

I'm planning on doing after school, weekend, in schools and have teamed up with 2 local social enterprises and 2 local councils coordinators for Eat Well programs to provide sessions for various pockets of people.

@anunlikelyseahorse So it will be from 5 upwards. I am thinking about doing older kids too because whilst cooking is generally a fun thing for younger kids, with older kids, it more of a skill for life. So yes, whilst I do really like Smart cookies, you're right I do definitely need to think about older kids.

If you start up in my area I'd definitely bring my 5 year old along. We used to go to Cookstars but our local one stopped running when the owners retired. He used to love going but there's no other ones local to us.
