What is your son 'into'? TV programmes, toys and games, computer sites and films, even fashion.

I need to know what are the 'in' things for my boys' peer groups, so that I can help them to fit in and to have the same stuff. With their sn they need me to do this for them. What are your sons' interests? What are the hot topics in the playground?

TIA.

football, cricket, any sport.

That and numbers (so money, adding up, looking for numbers, anything of that ilk).

Football cards too - he collects them and plays A LOT with his friends with those.

nintendo - Fifa 07, animal crossing (he plays that with his sister). On the computer, Club Penguin and the tamagotchi website (where he connects with his tamagotchi though he's losing interest in that).

In terms of TV, football, football and more football. Soccer Saturday, Match of the Day on a Sunday morning, first bits of evening matches.

(he sounds v boyish but he isn't really - due to having an older sister, he'd probably still happily dress up as a princess if she asked him too).

PrimulaVeris · 05/03/2008 13:13

DS 8 likes

Star wars
Dr Who
All those c**p cartoon channels on Sky
Trading cards (pokemon etc)
Simpsons

Current obsession is bleedin' Runescape. Which now has to be rationed as it is too addictive

ahundredtimes · 05/03/2008 17:55

Hecate - I've been thinking about this today. Not sure what sort of SN your boys?

But if AS then I would very strongly recommend the Pokemon and gaming cards as a place to start. Hope that's not out of turn or inappropriate.

hecate · 05/03/2008 17:57

yup. Autism it is. Not out of turn at all! I need the advice. Thanks.

DS is Sn as well so he just likes what my brother (a year younger) likes.

the list would be

Ben 10
nintendo DS - any game that has a car in it.
Star wars
transformers
He is just getting into the whole football thing. he hasn't a clue about it he just knows that boys talk about it, and like playing it.
he is almost 8 now so coming out of th epower rangers phase.
Bionicles.
lego - but not justthe normal lego bricks but the sets that youhave to make into star wars or robots ....you know the stuff that is hugely over priced

but mostly he jusr loves his bike. he only learned to ride it about a month ago and its all i can do to stop him taking it to bed with him!

nooka · 11/08/2008 01:06

ds is another pokemon fan. He has a Star Wars Lego collection, but probably plays with Playmobil more (he has pirates, castles and Roman collections).

He is also very keen on sticks, which I don't see mentioned here!

ghosty · 11/08/2008 01:22

DS is 9 in November and he likes:

Anything to do with sport, especially if it involves a ball. So give him a ball and he is happy. We are in Australia and at school all he plays is something called 2-Square. It is a ball game played in the playground (they have several 'courts' painted on the asphalt) - it is a kind of tennis/pingpong type game using a tennis ball or other bouncy ball and their hands as racquets .... looks really cool.
He loves cricket and soccer.

He loves his Nintendo DS and 'connects' with his best friend when they get together
Starwars and Lego Starwars (the films, the real lego and the playstation game)

Sciencey type experiment games

Board games like scrabble and monopoly are winners too.

Clothes wise - DS couldn't care less really, he will wear an orange t-shirt and red shorts without thinking. I buy him basic jeans/combat trousers and shorts with t-shirts and long sleeved t's for the winter. I like the longsleeved t-shirts that look like they have normal t-shirt over the top IYKWIM?

He has expressed a wish for some converse boots but I think they are bad for his feet so he hasn't got them yet.

ghosty · 11/08/2008 01:25

I He really wants a Wii so it looks like that will happen this xmas.

Books: Zac Power, Horrid Henry, anything fantasy, Captain Underpants, Roald Dahl ... very mixed taste, will read anything. Currently reading DH's old TinTin collection

Niecie · 11/08/2008 01:41

DS1 is 8 and into Dr Who, Star Wars (including the Lego), Narnia and his PS2 and computer games.

He also loves everything related to Horrible Histories but I am not sure that is the norm.

He has AS but his NT mates are into football more than him and Transformers etc.

Niecie · 11/08/2008 01:44

Oh and I forgot he loves reading.

He is currently reading Famous Five books and was surprised to meet his friend in the library a few days ago and he was reading them too.
