Will the airline allow my son to fly with a plaster cast on his hand?

My son broke his thumb yesterday and has his hand in plaster.
The doctor said he will be fine to return to school and he has okay'd it to fly to DLP next week but certain airlines won't allow it.We are flying with Easyjet, has anyone had a similar experience and any problems?

British Airways say this.

Due to the risk of swelling, if you have broken a bone and have been fitted with a plaster cast you cannot fly for 24 hours (if your flight is two hours or less) and for 48 hours (on longer flights). You may not be accepted to fly with a full leg plaster cast

I found this
www.easyjet.com/B2B/EN/Book/regulations.html#specialneeds

Passengers travelling with a plaster cast that has been fitted for less than 48 hours then the cast needs to be split (the split need to run along the entire length of the cast) If the plaster cast been fitted for more than 48 hours there is no requirement for the cast to be split. This is applicable for both plaster of paris and resin casts. A medical certificate confirming fitness to fly will be required.
