Building due to be demolished by my house. Demolition company gone home but left extremely loud generator on, so loud the bed's vibrating. Is there anything I can do? i don't suppose anyone could or would do anything about it?

I expect they don't need it, just left it on, maybe it powers their loos! Found company website, but no 24hr number obviously!

phone the police (local number) and they will either attend themselves or contact the anti social team who will attend and measure the amount of noise from generator

puffling · 03/03/2008 23:30

Thanks, will try that.

welcome no need to be putting up with that nonsense at all - you're not even allowed to toot your horn (except for emergencies) after 11pm at night so no need to be putting up with that

puffling · 03/03/2008 23:35

answer phone at police station!

Environmental health will come and do a noise reading if you give them a call, it's classed as noise pollution and they can slap an abatement notice on the company. You have a right to sleep. Bastards.

dizzydixies · 03/03/2008 23:37

you should at least get through to a control room at this time of night,

where do you live?

there should never be an answering machine full stop - it should redirect you to the control room at this time of night who will arrange for a unit to attend

puffling · 03/03/2008 23:47

Got through to Greater Manchester police, can't do anything said try ringing company!
avenanap, how do i get hold of environmental health?

Number should be in the phone book under the local council.

Scramble · 03/03/2008 23:49

Aw poor nightwatchman will be freezing with no TV to watch now

avenanap · 03/03/2008 23:52

Serves him bloody right for disturbing the neighbours!

Scramble · 03/03/2008 23:54

Its his job, 12 hr nightshifts are a bummer if you can't watch TMF and have lights so you can do sudoko all night

puffling · 03/03/2008 23:55

Hadn't thought was for a night watchman, might put my coat on and go and see. Noone will help me anyway, council said might deal with it in morning.

Poor you. Get it sorted out tomorrow, you shouldn't have to live like this.

dizzydixies · 04/03/2008 09:15

I cannot believe the police told you they couldn't do anything -thats a load of crap, when it is out of hours for normal environmental agencies it falls to then. Am so sorry about the poor service you received from them.

make sure you speak to the company today and also the environmental health so, even if they don't attend, they have a record of it

puffling · 04/03/2008 13:36

Spoke to men on site today, they were pleasant, said that there are security people there overnight who need generator for heating, but will poss. move it to other side of site. Nice bloke from council rang me and will visit them to work something out. Much better than responses I got last night.

Noisy generator left running in shop below me
Shop closed at 3&staff gone home.
I have Already made a complaint to council as its a semi regular occurance, that&not using extractor fans whilst cooking
Was told it can take some time
Is there anything else I can do.Its fine in my living room but right below my bedroom
Dreading another night trying to sleep above this
Tried speaking to staff several weeks ago
No joy
