Help, driving licence and speeding ticket dilemma!

I know this isn't remotely child related but can anyone help? I know there's a traffic warden out there somewhere!

I got a speeding fine about a month ago. I have a £60 fine which I now have 7 days left to pay or I have to go to court. I'm supposed to send the payment and my driving licence for endorsement. However my driving licence has my old address on it. This is my ex husband's address (husband technically, since we're not divorced yet).

If I send the payment and the licence with the old address (i.e husband address) will I get a £1000 fine for an incorrect driving licence address too? Or should I send it anyway with the fine payment and hope they don't do me? Can they? Might I get away with it on the basis that it is still my husband's address and I can be contacted via that address? Or should I send my licence off to DVLA for a change of address NOW and hope it comes back before next Weds 28th as the payment has to be with the ticket unit by then? Not very likely that it would come back to me by then I spose but who is responsible for proscecuting for the address part? Police or DVLA or both? What should I do? Am in a right tiz here! Thanks in advance for anyone who knows the answer. And I know, had I been more organised I could have had my amended licence back by now and ready to send, correct address and all. But I'm crap.

Can't really help you but my SIL was in the situation where she couldn't send her licence off with payment because it was with the DVLC having her address changed and she had to go to court instead. They wouldn't make any allowance for lateness although it was the DVLC who had the licence.

I sent mine off in a hurry after getting flashed by a camera for this very reason! You have to have a photo license now so you need to get a form from the Post Office, get a photo taken, send your passport off with the form blah blah blah... it's a complete pain and I doubt you'll get it back in time.

As it's your (ex) husband's address, I'd probably chance it if he's happy to send stuff onto you. If they query anything could you claim you've only just moved out?

You can take it in in person and pay, you don't have to post it off. Then maybe they won't notice the address discrepancy! I know someone who forgot and missed the deadline, and when she went to court they gave her a six-month ban and increased the fine (from £60) plus costs.(She'd only been doing 40 miles an hour! (in a 30 mile speed limit)

Have decided to send the fine and the driving licence with the old address to avoid going to court. Glad I did if there's possibly a ban if I don't, absolutely can't afford that, drive 1,200 miles a month atm. It's posted now so I'll see what happens. If they do notice the address I'll tell them it's my husband's address and I'm fully contactable there, which I am since he always passes mail on etc. Here's hoping I get away with it. Changing my address on my licence has been on my To Do list for ages...Thanks.

WWW - don't worry! We moved a year ago and still haven't changed our DL's. My dh got a speeding ticket and I sent off the old DL to them. They sent it back to the address registered on the car (we've changed the log book!). It's such a hassle getting your photo's done isn't it?

I'm getting 3 points as well apparently which will push my insurance up, am p*** off too. Looked around on the web and found a site that suggested you could get away with it (not getting points or fine) if you don't know who was driving and both plead guilty. Since we do the same journey every other weekend and share the driving I did think about trying that on as a defence. Didn't since dp wouldn't go for it. Ah well, suppose it's a fair cop and all that. If anyone's interested the site is here

WWW - I'm not sure that a speeding fine affects your insurance THAT much. It the dangerous driving/drunk driving ones etc that cause the most trouble. Have had 2 speeding fines over the years and don't think my insurance changed that much.

Used to work in motor insurance & you could have up to four points without it affecting the premium.
