Ticketmaster asking for kid's ID

I'm taking my 16 year old to see First Aid Kit at Crystal Palace. Its for over 16s only.

After buying tickets I got an email saying they will need photo ID for the 16 year old...but she doesn't have anything! Too young for a drivers licence, doesn't have a bus pass (we live in a rural area), no passport (don't judge!)...too late to order a Young Scot card etc.
She looks her age, never usually challenged. But it's 500 miles from our home to the gig, huge expense getting there and overnight hotel etc.

Do we just not bother? Or as they unlikely to ask for her ID if I'm with her and she looks her age anyway? Really worried. Thanks

Could you get her a bank account? Or something sent to the address.

Starling etc are all fast at setting up.

How would that help getting photo ID? My bank accounts don’t have photo ID.

You can get a provisional driving license when you're 16.

Post office pass card- urgent application takes 2 days

https://www.postoffice.co.uk/identity/pass-card

It's £30! Huge amount if it's not going to be necessary 😭. Literally same amount as her ticket cost.

You don't usually need to show ID if you're accompanying them usually.

Sherlockdee · 03/08/2023 00:29

Not within a week, that's the problem

OP posts:
Sherlockdee · 03/08/2023 00:30

That's what i was thinking...its surely only for those folk who try and get their kids in unaccompanied 🤞

HappiDaze · 03/08/2023 00:32

ID is usually if you're under 18 and not accompanied by anyone over 18

My DD is off to Reading and because they're all 16 but not with anyone over 18 they might need ID

They've not been as specific as yours but I'm sending DD with her passport which is rather not do but it runs out next year so if she loses it I'd have to replace it anyway

But surely it's worth it if you know it means you'll definitely get in. How would you feel travelling all that way, having all that expense & you get turned away at the door. For £30 I wouldn't hesitate in getting it.

HappiDaze · 03/08/2023 00:35

Does she have anything at all saying his old age is

Does she have her National Insurance letter for example so it will match your surname etc something like that with your matching address

Sherlockdee · 03/08/2023 00:35

Well I am on a very tight budget! The website didn't mention the need for ID, only the age restriction. So in fairness I did not expect this added expense (which amounts to a whole extra ticket). I'm happy for you that it's not something you'd hesitate to do, but I do have to count every penny.

How old she is

HappiDaze · 03/08/2023 00:36

Bloody predictive text

Sherlockdee · 03/08/2023 00:37

She has a school student ID card. It's used for things like entry to the sports ground etc. It has her DoB, but it's not photo ID.

OP posts:
HappiDaze · 03/08/2023 00:40

This is mainly for groups of DC who all look a similar age trying to get in as group

I doubt very much that they'll question your DD with you an adult and her mum. The student ID suffice as she's with an actual adult being her mum

Sherlockdee · 03/08/2023 00:45

Thank you. This makes total sense. Appreciate it.

Doesn't she have a bus pass if you're in Scotland? But agreed, I don't think she'll need it if you're with her.

AuroraForever · 03/08/2023 00:53

I’d contact them and tell them the ID you do have and ask if they’ll accept it as it’s too short notice and too expensive to apply for anything now. I’d do the same with the actual venue as well. The worst thing would be to go all that way and she’s refused entry which might happen.

OP said they live in a rural area. Bus services are rubbish. So unlikely to be able to make use of public transport - so although able to apply for free bus pass, unerstandably has not done so.

Highly unlikely they'll ask for ID ime OP and my DD has dragged me to a lot of gigs! I've been in this situation and took her birth certificate 'just in case' a few times but no one ever asked to see anything so I stopped bothering. I can't see venue staff turning you away even if they did ask and you couldn't produce actual photo ID, I think they'd accept a birth certificate rather than making you miss the show. Have a great time!

Crzy · 03/08/2023 04:13

Birth certificate of hers + your id is how we’ve always done it that way it’s very believable to door staff you’re actually her mother and the age stated on birth certificate is her actual age if they attempt to refuse entry as most of the time it’s due to believing they’ve got an older friends details and accompaniment
