Can I beg you for 2mins of your time to fill in a survey for me please? I want to know how often you read a newspaper!

WallOfSilence · 26/02/2008 20:30

Please?

If you are female & between 21 & 45 would you please take two minutes & follow my link?

It is for my dissertation which is: "Through what medium does the modern woman get her news and has the production of online news made it easier for her to stay in touch with current affairs?"

here I hope this link works!!

I hope to be able to gather the results & be able to tell how often the 'modern' woman buys a paper, what type of paper, whether she spends a lot of time online, if she spends time on news sites or if she uses the net for social networking etc... I also want to know if the SAHM/WOHM spends more time catching up on current affairs or if either one feels more pressured to be up to date with current affairs.

There are 2 questions the survey wouldn't add (Or I would have had to pay for it!!) so if you lot don't mind I could post them here & collect the results?

I'd appreciate the help!

11.b Weekly. I buy a saturday paper and take all week to read all the good bits

  1. e Habit and just to have something to read when I sit down to have a cuppa.

  2. b and c. Watch television news, but also have snippets online on home page. Hear bits and pieces on radio too. By the time I get round to reading my saturday newspaper the news is out of date

Fennel · 26/02/2008 21:00

I filled it in and here are my other answers. But how will you link these answers to the survey responses?

  1. a)

  2. c)

  3. a) (newspaper, but often online, so could answer c as well as a)

Blu · 26/02/2008 21:03

I am REELING from being too old to fill this in!

Am having a seismic shift to my core to think that oi might not count as a modern woman!

WallOfSilence · 26/02/2008 21:03

motherinferior I had to have a cut off point somewhere. It was 40 to begin with with my tutor is 41 so I upped it to 45!

Sorry if I offend anyone, but do you see where I needed to control it somewhere?

OP posts:
motherinferior · 26/02/2008 21:04

OK, I get your point. But I am quite modern, you know.

AmazingAsRaisins · 26/02/2008 21:05

MaeWest · 26/02/2008 21:07

Done the survey, extra questions...

11 b
12 a
13 c

WallOfSilence · 26/02/2008 21:07

Sorry Blu

Fennel, it's anon so your answers don't have to link to the ones in your survey. As long as I can gather these answers as well as the survey ones then dh I can work them out & put them in my percentage table.

b (if there isn't a Metro on the bus)

  2. What makes you pick up a paper?

WallOfSilence · 26/02/2008 21:12

Is it a worthwhile career MI?

It's a journalism degree I am doing at the minute. Planning on writing to the local paper to offer my services to gain experience & then apply for the MA.

Have you enjoyed it?

OP posts:
motherinferior · 26/02/2008 21:16

Yes, I do . Quite a lot of MNers are journalists, and I think most of us do.

WingsofanAngel · 26/02/2008 21:16

) Do you read a paper

a) Daily

  1. What makes you pick up a paper?

b) The headline

  1. What is your usual source for getting news:

a) Newspapers.

Fennel · 26/02/2008 21:17

Sorry if I'm nit-picking, I'm just interested. But unless I've forgotten already, you didn't ask on the survey if we were SAHM/WOHMs though, there was a question about whether we work from home but not about whether we are in paid work or SAHM work.

or perhaps I missed a vital bit of the survey, I can't get back into it now to check.

CantSleepWontSleep · 26/02/2008 21:18

11e occasionally, following no set pattern
12b,c,e (in a waiting room and nothing else to do, or to look at property pages)
13 c

I presume you accept that Q13 will have a fair bit of bias if your sample population are sourced online?

  1. Do you read a paper
    a) Daily

  2. What makes you pick up a paper?

c) To enable you to catch up on news
and
d) so you will have current affairs to discuss with others
and
e) so that I am informed for work (which requires knowledge of current affairs).

  1. What is your usual source for getting news: Radio 4 and BBC online.
ThingOne · 26/02/2008 21:24
  1. I read a paper three or four days a week. What do you want me to say? I get weekend papers delivered both days, get a weekly local paper and half the time read a paper on another day too. But I'm no longer a daily girl due to plenty of time to listen to radio 4 and read bbc news website.

  2. e
I am a reformed news junkie and read a paper through habit

  3. d Radio
I worship at the feet of Radio 4

You could do a whole lot more research on other current affairs sites and logs, yunno ;).

WallOfSilence · 26/02/2008 21:27

I am doing other research.

This is just one way

I do have 10,000 words to do you know

OP posts:
ThingOne · 26/02/2008 22:06

Tee hee - just a news junkie who lurves lots of the political blogs (I didn't really mean logs, honest) and could talk for hours about them .

WallOfSilence · 26/02/2008 22:31

Thanks for all the help everyone.

The survey shut down when it got to 100

I was worrying about gathering the information, but it's been easier than I thought!

I had a laugh at some of the comments on the survey though... I can see a few of them making their way to my dissertation

OP posts:
WallOfSilence · 26/02/2008 22:31

in to my dissertation.

joyfulspike · 28/02/2008 19:56
