if you don't have any credit? I'm possibly expecting a bit of trouble later on and realised I don't have any credits on my phone (T-Mobile).

Don't worry, I'm sure this message sounds worse than it actually is, will post again later with the full story.

Yes - by law 999 and the european equivalent (112?) have to work regardless of credit (and sim card I believe).

GeorginaA · 20/11/2002 20:41

PS. Hope you don't have to test it though :/

Good grief Mandy, you have got us all worried .... Hope you are okay.

Rhubarb · 20/11/2002 22:53

Post back please to let us know you're ok. I can only imagine that if you're calling 999 it must be an emergency - so just what trouble are you expecting????

Hi everybody, thanks for the advice and good wishes. What happened was, my DP is having a breakdown (psychiatric) and was treated very badly by the psychiatrist yesterday. Basically the doc told him if he was feeling suicidal, just go ahead and do it.

Anyway, they changed his medication and he had gone out for the evening. I didn't know where he was and was afraid that the new meds might cause a reaction and lead to him becoming violent as he once was before. I had an escape route planned, but would have needed to phone the police/ambulance from outside the house if things were that bad.

In the end, he came back around half past twelve last night and was fine, very calm indeed. I think we had better make a complaint to the health authority about what the psychiatrist said though.

bloody right you should complain - that's outrageous.

hope things work out for you though.

prufrock · 21/11/2002 13:37

God you poor thing to have to deal with this. You definately need to make a complaint about the psychiatrist - can your dp get a new one or would a change be detrimental to his treatment?

Just for the record (altho' I've never tested it) I think 999 works on a mobile even if the keypad is locked.

Sorry to hearthat you're having such a tough time mandyd.

MandyD, my dh had a breakdown too, though this was before he met me, I did see the tail end of it though and know how scary it can be. If you are willing to tell me a little more about it, I'll see if I can get dh to give some advice. To tell you about him, he was treated very badly by his doctors too, they treated him as if he had no voice, no opinions at all. They injected him with medication he had no knowledge of, and diagnosed him as being schizophrenic without really listening to him. He swears the medication has had long-term effects on him. I really hope your dp manages to pull out of this, you sound very supportive of him anyway.

MandyD

Sorry to hear about your dh, some of these professional are awful aren't they?
When my dad was signed off by the psychiatrist after his last breakdown, the guy said "See you in 10 years then" and it preyed on my dads' mind and sure enough he did go on to have another one. Obviously he did have problems but what help are they with negative attitudes like this. When you have problems you need a sympathetic and supportive approach, not the pull yourself together approach.
Hope the medication works for your dh and he begins to feel better.
Take care
