What (not?) to wear? Style or colour advice

Has anyone ever tried out those colour or style advice people you see in the yellow pages? Was it worth it, or just a gimmick? "What not to wear" on the BBC(and dh's kind comments about me dressing like my mum!) make me feel I need a re-vamp, but I don't know where to start. And of course, I don't have a fortune to spend either (more's the pity).
Any advice?

RosieT Iwas up at 5.30am on Tuesday going through the T&S book. Then I got out the Next Directory and looked for what I needed. I have a list of about 20 items to order.

I was in Birmingham today so I took a look around the shops. Found a lovely wrap top in Oasis but ocmpletely not my colour, either the baby blue or the pink. But just my style.

BUt like you, I searched high and low. Many of the tops they advise for my shape come in horrid cheap nasty fabrics which make me cringe the moment I touch them. And I'm not about to spend a fortune on this year's stuff IYSWIM. New Look is fine by me, as long as the shape is right and the fabric not too plastic.

I did a 'colour' course at evening class. (about £40 for 6 or 8 sessions but free for low incomes) We did colour drapes to see which season we were, looked at what shades would suit us, did make up (which the teacher sold!) and also looked at styles and shapes. I bought a colour swatch which I carry in my handbag, but being a rare 'spring'(warm but clear and crisp rather then muted autumn colours) I often have difficultly finding my shades in the shops. It really does make a difference to how you look if you wear the correct shades.

GeorginaA you might find that only certain shades of green suit you, each season has its own shades. Probably because you like green so much it is likely to be one of your colours anyway.
