Hi all!

For reasons I would rather not go into I am currently unable to drive and It is likely I wont be able to until later part of next year (2024).

Finding this out coincides with my husband and I wanting to start a family but I am very worried about being carless!

We live about 15 min walk to a smallish town that has access to baby groups, coffee shops, park, small supermarket and general bits and pieces. There are semi regular buses (until about 6pm) and there are local cab companies (no uber). I also have close family within a 15 min drive.

Is this doable with a child that could be up to 6 months old before I start driving again (depending on how easily I fell pregnant)?

I want nothing more than to try and be a Mum but would like to know what anyone who's actually had kids if I am being unrealistic about managing without being able to get myself around.

Thanks!

I have a car and spent most of my maternity leave walking to places instead, between 5 and 10km a day to baby groups, town centre, library, parks, friends houses. It was nice to get out and about with the pram for air especially when feeling really tired. I only really used the car for visiting the supermarket or my parents as they live an hour away. Once I’d braved the bus that was really easy too. I used to take the baby carrier under the pram incase baby wanted to be carried, and a picnic blanket for stopping when the weather was fine, a long with always having water and snacks esp if breastfeeding.

I think you’d be fine!

My DD's were 7&9 before I could drive. We managed fine including living in a village at one point
