Torfaen - what is it like and in particular St Alban's School?

Have seen a possible job there but what is it like for employment generally, Dp is a CAD designer would he be able to get work near there.

What is the area like? Some people at work have said it is lovely but my google research has proven to be inconclusive. It is also near some areas we would not like to live and as we are currently living somewhere that makes us very unhappy we want to get it right.

Also what are the schools like both St Albans, primary schools ( preferably RC) and independant schools?

I'm from Torfaen! Cwmbran to be more precise.
St. Albans is probably seen as one of the better schools, especially its sixth form as I know a lot of people have gone there from my old school. (Please don't judge it on Newport. It is a dreadful city, and there are some lovely bits!)
There's an independent school on the border between Cwmbran and Newport. It's called Rougemont, but I'm not sure exactly where it ranks, or how good it is. As far as RC schools go, the only one I know of is St. Albans sorry.
There are some absolutely gorgeous places in this area! Especially if you're looking for somewhere quite rural.
(Feels quite sad that your first impression of Wales was Newport, it is a shitehole!)

I went to that school, good at the time but I can't comment now (a good 15 years ago). I live in Cardiff and personally wouldn't go back to Ponty (tho I have to once a week for grandparent visiting duty!)
Its an easy commute, I made it in just over 20mins at the weekend.
