Interested to know who pays what in the south of england for their cleaners.

I currently pay £8p/h, but my cleaner is angling for more, is this excessive? I know of £8 being the norm, but wasn't aware it was now going above this.

Thanks.

we pay ours £7.50/hr in central london. i think this is fairly generous. however, i'm not sure she's entirely legal....

thanks HT, legal as in no tax/insurance or work permit wise? As ours is just cash in hand, which works out at a good take home pay per hour. Anyone else?

Central London £8 p/h cash in hand, that is as much as we used to pay our nanny ! She is fab though.

Mum pays hers £7 per hour. Also Central London.

no tax, insurance or work permit....

Mine gets £7 and that is in the east midlands so counts as a very good rate of pay. She sets her own rate and she is worth every penny.

We pay £8 an hour cash in hand (East London).

i would say £8 p/h is the going rate where i am (sw london). we pay our cleaner more though, as she is so utterly fantastic. e.g. she scrubbed bloodspots out of our carpet after my dd's homebirth - completely unasked i hasten to add!

Thanks everyone, I feel fine that I am paying the going rate now, especially as it's cash in hand.
