Does anyone know whether the loo and the bath drains end up in the same sewer?

Ours do.

not sure....
but i think ours do.....they seem to share a 'pipe' anyway....

Yes they do, generally, that is why you have a "u" bend underneath your sink etc, to stop the smell returning!

But the big fat pipe that the loo empties to goes straight down the side of the block, with all the other loos emptying to it, and there's the same arrangment (smaller pipe) for the bathroom sinks and baths, and again for the kitchen sinks. There is no apparent meeting point above ground.

Any surveyors on Mumsnet?

Yep, if they're on the same wet wall (where the plumbing is -- usually if they're in the same place or one is underneath the other).

Ours come down to the same place. I know all too well as of a couple of weekends ago. It backed up all over the back patio.

They have to meet up somewhere to go to the sewer.

Wish you well and hope it's not what I'm thinking!

I don't know what you're thinking, but it's not bad Wink. I'm just wondering about the practicalities of adding bathrooms to houses. (Though I did have a problem a year ago when our loo literally shattered and it took nearly two weeks until we got a new working one, during which time I had a nasty tummy bug and used the bath for purposes that required a lot of bleach afterwards Blush)
