I am stuck on the section where I have to include my parents info.

My mum and dad were married when I was born which will be apparent from my birth certificate, but they are now divorced and my mum has reverted to using her madien name, and her passport is in her maiden name.

It asks for my parents details and I have put my mum down with her maiden name, but then it asks for the date of marriage to the father of the person applying for the passport.

Do I leave that as they are now divorced or not ?? If I do fill it in, do I need to explain in another section that they are now divorced, or will they just assume that my mum uses her maiden name ??

I would put it as it stands and then put an attachment in with it to fully explain. I have completed a lot of these recently so feel quite qualified to give an opinion. However, that is not a 100% guarentee I am right!

Sorry, do you mean not include the date of their marriage then ??

I would say you should put the date of marriage. It doesnt matter to them if they're still married and whether she uses her maiden name now or not. They need to establish that you are a British subject and that can depend on where parents were born and whether they were married when you were born, especially if the mother was not British.

Ok, will include it then.

For all they know, she never used your father's surname. Put her name as she uses it now. They may check her current passport to assess her nationality, which presumably is in her maiden name now.

There is space in section 8 for notes I think, if you feel you need to explain.

scorpio1 · 15/02/2008 15:23

her name needs to be the same in your application as her passport says.

Include the date of their marriage. The imprtant thing is that they were married when you were born. The passport office doesn't give two hoots whether they are still married, divorced, or living in a polygamous cult of some kind.

nutcracker · 15/02/2008 15:42

I will include it, once one of them can remember when it was that is LOL.
