How to explain children who won't get presents

We are going to a church service on Sunday where we take a toy that will be given to deprived children in the area.

How do you explain why we are doing that? How do you explain that FC won't be visiting those children because as far as ds1 is concerned (aged 3.5) FC visits everyone.

We've told dd (3.5) that santa only delivers presents, and that we and other people send them to him to deliver to her. She knows that some people aren't as lucky as we are, and that there are people who have nothing, so I have told her that the presents we have given to charity appeals are so that santa has some presents to deliver to children whose mummies and daddies can't afford very much.

OK, that sounds OK WWB. I think I've just not really even tackled who buys what with DS yet as he's not really asked questions. Yesterday he saw a Thomas chocolate factory thing and went on about us buying it all day. When dh and I went out shopping last night told us not to forget it but we said, well it's up to FC if he gets it or not.

Should really get my story straight!

Will use yours for the church pressie though.
